Joe Gibbs Racing driver Kyle Busch drove his No. 54 Monster Energy Toyota Camry to victory lane Saturday at Dover International Speedway, winning the Dover 200 after taking the lead from Joey Logano following a caution at the midway point of the race – similar to the way he won the May Nationwide Series race at the same track.
JGR driver Elliott Sadler came home fifth, while Justin Boston finished 12th in his second race for JGR.
“I knew we had a good car,” said Busch, who started from the fifth position. “I was just kind of biding my time—I was just chillin’… The second half of the race, when we beat the 22 (Logano) off pit road – these guys here, they did a great job on that pit stop. It was good for us to get out front like that, get in clean air and show what this car had for speed. This Monster Energy Toyota Camry was really, really fast. It was awesome.”
Sadler, in the No. 11 Sport Clips Toyota, started from the 10th position, while Boston, in the No. 20 Zloop Toyota, started 11th.
Rookie Chase Elliott finished third and extended his points lead over Regan Smith to 26 points. Chris Buescher finished fourth. Kyle Larson, Brian Scott, Smith, Trevor Bayne and Ty Dillon rounded out the top 10.
The Nationwide Series visits Kansas Speedway next Saturday, October 4th.
Busch starts on the outside pole in the No. 18 Interstate Batteries Toyota Camry in Sunday’s AAA 400 at Dover after a lap of 162.404 mph (22.167 seconds). Kevin Harvick took the pole with a speed of 162.933 mph (22.095 seconds).
Denny Hamlin starts third in the No. 11 FedEx Freight Toyota after his lap of 162.250 mph (22.188 seconds) during qualifying, while Matt Kenseth starts 14th in the No. 20 Home Depot/Husky Tools Toyota following a lap of 161.132 mph (22.342 seconds).
