Don Schumacher Racing drivers Antron Brown (Top Fuel) and Matt Hagan (Funny Car) brought home Wallys from the boss’ home track of Route 66 Raceway in Joliet, Illinois, home of the O’Reilly Auto Parts Route 66 NHRA Nationals. Vincent Nobile (Pro Stock) and Hector Arana Jr. (Pro Stock Motorcycle) also walked away from Route 66 with wins.
Brown, the 2012 Top Fuel champ, once again defeated Brittany Force in the finals; the pair also met with similar results in Phoenix earlier this season. Brown, the No. 3 qualifier, earned round wins over Billy Torrence, Richie Crampton and Clay Millican to reach the finals.
Hagan, the No. 10 qualifier in Funny Car, took early round wins over his teammate Jack Beckman, Bob Bode and another DSR teammate in Ron Capps to reach the final round match-up with the fourth DSR Funny Car team and driver Tommy Johnson Jr.
Both Pro Stock finals also featured team cars, as Nobile took the Wally away from his KB Racing teammate Jason Line and Arana Jr. defeated his father, 2009 champ Hector Arana. Nobile, the No. 6 qualifier in Pro Stock, earned round wins over Jonathan Gray, Jeg Coughlin Jr. and Shane Tucker to reach the final. Arana Jr. qualified No. 2 in PSM and took round wins over Steve Johnson, Andrew Hines and Shawn Gann to reach the all-Arana finals.
