The Hartford Wolf Pack released their AHL schedule last Wednesday. The new tag line for Hartford hockey’s 40th season is; “THIS IS HARTFORD HOCKEY” The 18th season of AHL hockey in Hartford is well stocked with weekend games that will go a long way to bringing people into the newly renovated XL Center.
Opening night is October 18 against new division rival the Syracuse Crunch. All together the Wolf Pack will play 12 Saturday night games this season. They will play 15 Friday night games and will try to pull people away from watching the NFL on six of seven Sunday contests. Three Wednesday night games and a Thursday morning game round out the schedule.
The usual suspects are on the list of opponents that the Wolf Pack will face. There are 10 games a piece against the team from the south, the Bridgeport Sound Tigers and the Springfield Falcons, the teams’ long Interstate I91 rival to the north. The Pack will make five trips west to Albany this year, Albany being the third team the Pack will play 10 times this season.
The Wolf Pack will play new division rival Syracuse eight times this year. This Syracuse team was previously from Norfolk where they set records for consecutive wins and also battled the Connecticut Whale(Hartford Wolf Pack) in the second round of the 2012 playoffs.
Leehigh Pennsylvania is the new home of the Phantoms. The Glens Falls Phantoms moved and are set to play in their new arena. The Wolf Pack will play the Philadelphia Flyer affiliate four times this season. They also play that amount against; Portland, Worcester, Manchester, Hershey, Wilkes Barre/Scranton, Norfolk, St. John’s, Binghamton and Providence.
The Pack will have no road trips longer than four games. Their toughest stretch of games looks to be through February and March where they play only six home games and 17 on the road. In February, 9 of their 13 games will be on the road. The longest home stand is also only four games.
The Pack will have plenty of home dates for a stretch in December and January where they will play 16 of 23 games at home.
The XL Center new attractions and the Wolf Pack rosters new additions will certainly create a buzz to bring in a sizable crowd for the home opener and if the amenities are as state of the art as the XL Center videos are showing you can probably expect more. Especially if the team plays as well as expected.
