Whether or not your favorite fresh vegetables are in season, the farmer’ market can be a great place to procure food directly from producers, give them feedback, and ask questions about the products that are most important to you. Many of Boston’s farmer’s markets continue to bring late season produce and specialty artisan products to the city well into the fall. November can be a great time to sample traditional “harvest” items such as root vegetables- a lesson some adorable costumed children learned this Halloween at Copley Square as they visited on of the vendors who gave them each an ear of corn to take home. In about as urban setting as you can get, the Copley Farmer’s Market can provide a quick and easy lunch or snack option, as well as providing a healthy, local supplement to your grocery shopping trip, with New England fall scenery thrown in for free. Here are a few gems that you can still visit through November:
Danish Pastry House (who doesn’t love a pun?) brings tempting pastries of all kinds to add some zing to your mid-afternoon snack break. Drop by their storefront in Watertown to pair these items with a hot or iced coffee.
Granite Ledge Coffee is one of those companies that does one thing and does it well. They are devoted to bringing their customers high quality, affordable coffee beans. You’ll have to get a grinder to enjoy their product, but it will be worth it.
Iggy’s Bread Ltd: In addition to selling flavorful bread you can get excited about, Iggy’s brings sandwiches to the Copley Farmers market that you can enjoy as a picnic by the fountain.
Matt’s The Amazing Smokehouse is run by two brothers who buy the freshest catch from Boston fishermen and turn it into ready-to-eat delicacies at their smokehouse in Sudbury.
Seta’s Mediterranean Foods provides another healthy, home cooked lunch time option. Raised in Worcester in an Armenian family, restaurant owner Seta Dakessian still makes her traditional Mediterranean and Middle Eastern foods alongside her 81-year-old mother.
The Copley Square Famer’s Market takes place Tuesdays and Fridays from 11:00 AM to 6:00 PM through November 25th.
