I know you have heard of it, viewed it and possibly shared it with others. You tube has more than 1 billion unique users each month. Over 6 billion hours of video are watched each month on You Tube. Nearly 100 hours of video are uploaded to You Tube every minute. YouTube is localized in 61 countries and across 61 languages. According to Nielsen, You Tube reaches more US adults ages 18-34 than any cable network. During work hours,14.4% of employees use You Tube. 30% of baby boomers visit You Tube monthly. In 2013, 5.6 billion was spent on advertisement on You Tube. If these statistics don’t impress you to utilize this type of forum to grow your business, then you are literally kicking your business under the rug.
There are many ways to make a great video. The following tips are things that you should keep in mind when you are making your perfect You Tube marketing video.
1. Try to do something a little bit different. Don’t recreate the wheel, but seek originality as it relates to you and your business. View videos that are in your field of interest. See what they do. To make your video stand out, you need to stand out yourself. Be different! Don’t just film yourself sitting on a couch talking. That’s boring and most certainly has been done before. Instead, try to find an interesting background, i.e., a body of water, a mountain, a bridge, a spot out in the community, etc. Something that will accentuate your filming and that is catchy to the eye will be the most appealing. Use some interesting music that goes along with your video. Do you have a theme song or motto? Make it flow! Even if you are making an informational or educational video, you should be able to find ways to make it entertaining and worthy of attention. The last thing that you want to do is to stand in front of the camera and talk as if you are giving a speech.
2. Make sure that you dress for success and look the part. First impressions are lasting impressions! If you’re going to make a professional marketing video, dress professional. Tee shirts are not professional no matter how cute they are. It’s okay to appear casual and relaxed because people can identify with that. However, to look like an expert in your field, you actually need to look like an expert in your field and assume the role. If you are a mechanic, it’s okay to wear your uniform. If you are an executive financial planner, wearing a T-shirt and cutoffs isn’t saying a lot about your expertise or your desire to make a connection with someone who needs your advice. So in essence, dress to appease your audience.
3. Don’t just advertise, explain, educate and entertain. People don’t come on to You Tube to watch advertisements. They have regular commercials and late night infomercials for that. Teach, act, lead, guide. It’s your platform to inform. Be a resource for your customers to come and get answers. Offer suggestions, recommendations and advise as to why you are the expert at what you do.
4. Your video doesn’t have to be professional looking, but it shouldn’t look thrown together either. The audience must be able to hear the audio and actually see the people that they are looking at. This means no bad lighting, no shaky video, no background noise and no phones ringing. You should take great pride in what you are producing. It will be an example of the type of business you produce. Do a sound test and possibly ask someone to view the finished product.
5. Keep it short. Get straight to the point! Most successful You Tube videos are less than 5 minutes long. Even if your marketing video is educational or informational, make sure that it isn’t needlessly long. For this reason, it might be helpful to write out a script first and then time it prior to uploading it.
The craze is social media. If you are not using it, you are missing a big loop hole in connecting with new and existing clients. You Tube can be a powerful social media marketing tool for your business or products that you are trying to promote. You don’t have to be a pro at using video equipment nor a seasoned journalist. Most of the You Tube videos are shot by amateurs and are low-budget. That doesn’t mean that a lot of work didn’t go into producing. It simply means that with a little time and effort, you can invest into an opportunity that can help you resonate with others right in their living room or on their cell phone.
