October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month and today the Gloria Gemma Breast Cancer Resource Foundation announced their plans for the ninth annual Flames of Hope: A Celebration of LifeTM. This major weekend event is to raise awareness and resources for breast cancer The encore presentation takes place in downtown at the Providence Celebration Village at Station Park starting on Oct. 10.
This year marks the Gloria Gemma Breast Cancer Resource Foundation’s ten year anniversary. The Pawtucket, RI-based nonprofit provides resources and support to tens of thousands of individuals affected by breast cancer in the Ocean State, as well as some parts of MA and CT.
“This year’s Flames of Hope event promises to be three days filled with inspiration, support, and awareness focused on a disease that touches the lives of so many people in our local communities,” Maria Gemma, Executive Director of the Gloria Gemma Breast Cancer Resource Foundation, tells the Examiner.
It’s been dubbed a party you do not want to miss the ARS VIP Pink Party. The exclusive ARS VIP Pink Party is just one of the many highlights of Flames of Hope. The ARS VIP Pink Party takes place on Saturday, Oct. 11, in Celebration Village. The doors open at 7pm, and goes nonstop until midnight. Performing live at the ARS VIP Pink Party will be Connecticut native and singer/songwriter Kelsey Kaplan, whose includes originals as well as covers of favorites by Colbie Caillat, Michelle Branch, and Adele.
Foodies will be delighted at the ARS VIP Pink Party because attending also means having access to an all-you-can-eat food station courtesy of Trattoria Romana, in addition to a pink cake from Gregg’s Restaurant.
The ninth annual Flames of Hope: A Celebration of Life has a great lineup. On Friday, Oct.10 Gloria Gemma’s 2015 ‘Celebrate Hope, Celebrate Life’ calendar will be unveiled at an invitation-only ceremony taking place in Celebration Village. The featured calendar models all who carry the BRCA gene mutation, also know as the “breast cancer gene”which increases the chances of developing breast and ovarian cancers.
Making the latest calendar possible are sponsors South County Hospital, Admirals Bank, and 21st Century Oncology, as well as supporting sponsors RI Rehabilitation Center and Dr. David L. Renaud, DDS.
On Saturday Oct. 12, starting at 2p.m. the Celebration Village comes alive with live music. Those in attendance can rock out to Bon Jovi tribute band One Wild Night and U2 tribute band The Joshua Tree. Both acts are free and open to all Flames of Hope-goers. In addition to all of the entertainment the event offers free support, education, awareness, and fun for people of all ages.
Food, Celebrity Chef Mary Ann Esposito, will be on hand. Esposito will be on-site conducting a free food demo at 4p.m. using ingredients courtesy of Venda Ravioli. At 6p.m. the Illuminations of Life Ceremony begins. This beautiful ceremony begins at the Rhode Island State House steps and ends with a torch procession, considered the pinnacle of the three-day event.
