My husband came home today with one of the most amazing stories of kindness I have heard in a very long time and so needed to hear, he has been helping a long time friend of his work on a recent purchase of a home bought up in the mountains of Mariposa Valley and this home is in need of a major re model which is why my husbands friend made the purchase, he got the house for a really good price and had only visited it a couple of times with the owner who was still removing what little he had there due to the house had been unlived in for quite some time.
The purchase was made the house now belonged to my husbands friend Paul and his wife, so now the fun part begins with tearing the house apart from the inside out and replacing all they want redone, the house had been locked up from the last time anyone had been there so they were not expecting to find anything out of the ordinary inside, Paul proceeds to tell my husband his amazing story and my husband listens intently somewhat in disbelief only to be shown proof once again that miracles really do exist if we open our minds as well as our hearts to the experience.
Paul tells my husband that upon arriving at the house from the last time they were there, over a week ago him and his wife do a walk thru and to their amazement find this little amazing creature hanging on to its dear life in a window sill of one of the bedrooms, how it got locked in without notice they don’t know but they do know it had to have been there this entire week with no water and not sure what kind of food it might have had access to, this little amazing creature hanging on to dear life laying in the window sill was a hummingbird.
Paul picks it up gently and yes it is still alive but barely, he puts it back down not wanting to scare it further or cause it more harm than already done, opens the window and walks away telling himself he hopes for the best as somehow this little creature had endured an entire week and still held on to life, so hoping that there was indeed enough life to give this bird the will to fly again was something Paul would have to wait and see existed or not. He left the room and went about his business only to check back later and to the delight of Paul and his wife, the bird was gone. They wondered? Did the little hummingbird fly off to live or die? would they ever find out? they seriously doubted it.
A day or so went by and nothing happened, they saw nothing, expected nothing, no sign, hoped for something but up in the mountains and the bird being almost dead, knew that the odds of the little bird living did not look so good.
Then it happens, out of no where the hummingbird comes back and flies thru the open house, flying everywhere, back out of the house and then back in, actually hovering around Paul and his wife’s heads and then taking off again, they thought this cannot be? this is actually happening, laughing, full of disbelief and happiness that such a little bird, almost dead, lived and now came back as if to say thank you for saving me, for helping me, for opening the window.
They started putting out bird feeders while up there and keeping them full and to their surprise and delight the bird kept coming back, always flying thru the house and finding either Paul or his wife and hovering around them as if to say, its me I am back and to even more of their surprise and delight, he is bringing friends with him. My husband says he listened to this story and thought yes I believe it, I do believe in miracles as my wife has opened my mind and heart to believing and as much as he wanted to believe he was in awe to the point of almost disbelief, only to have to the hummingbird itself prove to him the story was and is indeed true. He comes home telling me that today while up there helping to work on the house the bird shows up just as Paul had said it would and hovers around their heads to make himself seen and noticed, then heads to the feeders and then takes off as usual, a little time goes by and the bird comes back and this time he has his two friends, which Paul is calling his girl friends. My husband has now seen with his own two eyes that this bird is alive and continues to visit Paul and his wife, flying thru the gutted house, no longer in fear of being closed in and is now bringing friends along with him, my husband says the bird literally hovers within touching distance around Paul’s head more so than his wife’s but has not fear of either. Paul tells my husband they now have a pet hummingbird and will continue to make sure the feeders stay full for the little hero and its friends.
This warmed my heart to hear that something on the brink of death had enough will left in its little body to fight for life, something inside this little bird gave it the will to fly and live and then come back and in its own little way, say look its me I am alive and thank you. My husband wants to take me up to the house so I myself can see with my own eyes, which I would love to, not because I am in doubt because I am not but because he knows I do believe in miracles, always have and always will and if I can see yet another one besides my own six and the few others I know exist, I am privileged to be the company of any miracle. It only takes each one of us to open our hearts and our minds and maybe we would all be more privileged to be in the company of even more living, breathing, precious miracles. I call them my family, they are my six dogs, one pigeon and many stray cats. Please save a miracle when you can however often you can. We must stop the needless murder of millions of adoptable animals every day, month and year. They deserve so much better from us all.
