On Monday, the Associated Press reported that the Obama administration admits it has released an untold number of illegal immigrant families in the interior of the United States. Worse yet, the AP said, while the administration knows how many have been released, it refuses to reveal that number to the public.
Administration officials directly familiar with the issue — including those with the Department of Homeland Security — have dodged questions about the issue at least seven times in a two-week period, the AP added. According to the AP, officials alternated between saying they didn’t have the number or or didn’t have the information immediately available.
“We will get back to you,” a Homeland Security deputy secretary told the AP on Friday. Administration officials did not respond to inquiries about the issue on Monday.
The AP further said the number of those released into the interior is believed to exceed 40,000 since October. Many of the families are believed to have arrived from Central America and cannot be immediately repatriated.
“So,” the AP added, “the government has been releasing them into the U.S. interior and telling them to report within 15 days to the nearest U.S. Immigrations and Customs Enforcement offices.”
But the administration has been unwilling to say exactly how many of those families have been released, or if any of them have actually reported back to the government after 15 days as directed. Even White House Press Secretary Josh Earnest has been either unable or unwilling to provide any answers.
“I don’t have those numbers here,” he told reporters Friday, “but what I do have is a clear commitment from this administration to deal with what is an emerging humanitarian situation.”
Making matters even worse, a a federal request for vendors to “escort” thousands of illegal juveniles originally posted in January make it appear as thought the administration knew well in advance there would be a huge influx of illegal immigrants. When asked about the posting, ICE spokeswoman Barbara Gonzalez confirmed the posting was authentic but refused to provide any additional details, telling The Blaze she would get back to them when more information becomes available.
“Well, look at how they lied and covered up the fact that ICE released 36,000 illegal aliens with criminal convictions in 2013. Remember that? There were murderers and rapists in that release. So why should it surprise us when they refuse to tell us about releasing families,” Rush Limbaugh said Tuesday. “The Regime has a government to grow. The Regime has a party to grow here, and they’re gonna do it one way or another.”
A statement released by the National Association of Former Border Patrol Officers calls the flood of illegal immigrants “orchestrated and contrived” by political leaders looking to use the children for pure political purposes.
“Certainly, we are not gullible enough to believe that thousands of unaccompanied minor Central American children came to America without the encouragement, aid and assistance of the United States Government. Anyone that has taken two six to seven year old children to an amusement park can only imagine the problems associated with bringing thousands of unaccompanied children that age up through Mexico and into the United States,” the statement adds.
“In speaking with my Border Patrol sources and given my own expertise, there is no way this flood of illegal aliens could’ve been accomplished by mere ‘children,’ let alone small alien smuggling organizations,” said Andy Ramirez, a recognized national expert on border security who has testified before Congress and other government bodies. “This is a major operation that requires logistical support, and that is well beyond snakehead capabilities.”
