It is finally here. The start of season 2 for Agents of SHIELD. The first season certainly had us at the edge of seat (especially the last half of the season) and we got to enjoy quite a few crossovers. We will probably get some more crossovers this year as The Avengers 2 is set to come out in May. The season 1 finale was oen that was talked about among fans of the show and the Marvel universe. Joss Whedon has done an amazing job at working the show so that it works with the Avenger movies (single and group ones) and create a story with these agents as well.
We already know that there is going to be a mini-series spin off that will follow Captain America’s love interest, Peggy, as she starts the Agents of SHIELD. That is set to come out early 2015. What is most important to look forward to this year is the questions that the season 1 finale left us. Agents of SHIELD has been disbanded. Will we get to the bottom of what happened with Ward? What are the markings that we saw in the last show? Is Fitz all right? What will happen between him and Simmons?
Let’s dive right into the recap for the 1st episode of season 2.
Of course HYDRA is still at work working on what ever it s that they are working on. They have this artifact that they think holds the answer to death. And guess who pops in, Peggy (guest star Hayley Atwater) securing the SSR 084.
Move to the present day. The group drops in on an agent, Browning, selling one of the SSR 084 boxes. He states that it’s the only one with a level 10 clearance. Someone drops in on the drop in and they steal the picture. It looks like the one ‘buying’ the boxes are agents trying to find rogue agents.
Agent Bill (Guest star Patton Oswalt), no this is not the same guy that we met in season 1. It’s his twin brother is helping Coulson and the agents help find rogue agents. This is proving harder then they thought as there are more enemies out there then they were expecting and the fact that they are the enemy of the government certainly doesn’t make things easy either.
The guy who stole the picture of the SSR 084 sends the picture to the person who hired him. His reward, a diamond and we get to see him glitter as his arm becomes a diamond as well (reminds you a little bit of X-men. Is it to wishful thinking that there will be an X-men crossover?)
It looks like Fitz is alive but he has brain damage because he keeps forgetting things (though he’s still really smart just not as smart as he used to be). Simmons tries to help him but Fitz is not the type that likes help (especially when it’s about in regards with intellectual stuff). Fitz/Simmons investigate the lead evidence they found at the scene and they realize it’s flesh (probably from absorbable man). They find that the DNA is for Carl Kreel. Looks like Kreel was one of Garrett’s men.
Coulson gives Skye a special assignment ‘down there’ which is strange and she is reluctant to go. When she goes there it says VAULT D on the door and we get to see none other then Ward (who looks total bad ass in his beard). We learn that Ward has been wanting to talk and they didn’t take any. Skye tries to find out about Kreel (which is hard for her considering she’s still angry with Ward for what he did). Apparently there is tracker in Ward that keeps him from coming to close to Skye. He says that he was under Garrett’s control. Apparently he tried multiple times to kill himself.
Garrett starts talking about Kreel and his ability. He tells them how they might be able to figure out where he is. By using frequencies through SHIELD messages. As Skye parts, Ward promises that he will always be truthful. Turns out that Ward was right. Which is not a good sign as they find hundreds of locations for Hydra members.
Coulson tries to warn the government general, Talbott, that he’s in danger. Obviously he doesn’t believe them because he’s an idiot, and sure enough Kreel shows up to try and take him out. The Agents are able to save him and take him hostage because that’s how they work now.
While Coulson questions Talbott, and tries to get him to back off. Talbott of course rejects it and says that he will never help him. They are able to trick him into giving his access code. Stupid Talbott.
Fitz is still frustrated with his brain and how he can’t be the person that he was before. Simmons wants him to get better but she’s the only one patient enough to help him and wait for him. Obviously considering what happened in that box knowing that Fitz has feelings for her and she almost lost her.
The group gears up to try and break into the government agency to get the absorbing man and pierce of SSR 084. They get in successful and Harley finds the 084. As she does, Kreel shows up to try and take it and Harley grabs the 084 and it absorbs into her hand and her to cry in pain. Maybe that’s why it’s so valuable and maybe you will learn next time not to touch things that you don’t know what they do.
The group fight to make an escape as Harley gets her hand cut off. Thankfully they get away. Coulson said that he needed the cloaking stuff because he doesn’t think that Fitz can get there on his own. Turns out that Simmons isn’t really there but is a figment of his imagination. Simmons apparently left because she thought it would help Fitz. Stupid. Plain stupid. It won’t help him at all if Simmons is not there. She is the jelly to his peanut butter. She needs to come back and help him get back.
Trouble for the agents as Kreel forces a car accident killing two of the agents (the new ones don’t worry it‘s 2 of the new ones) and allowing him to take the 084. This is not good. Repeat. This is not good.
As the show comes to an end, we see that the person that is looking for the 084 and is none other then Whitehall (the same guy who was looking for it in the ‘40s and was thwarted by Peggy).
It’s clear that this season is going to have a lot more action then the first season had plus a whole lot more twists as there is a war waging between Hydra and SHIELD. Strap yourselves in for this season as it’s going to be fun to watch it all unfurl.
