Over 1,500 people are expected to gather for the Greater Baltimore Walk to End Alzheimer’s®, Saturday, Oct. 25 (rain or shine), from a new downtown Baltimore location – Rash Field at the Inner Harbor (201 Key Highway, 21230).
Hosted by the Alzheimer’s Association Greater Maryland Chapter, the event provides an opportunity for the community to learn about Alzheimer’s disease and how to get involved with this critical cause, from advocacy opportunities and clinical trial enrollment, to support programs and services.
“Everyone with a brain is at risk, which makes now the time to join in the fight against Alzheimer’s,” said Cass Naugle, executive director, Alzheimer’s Association Greater Maryland Chapter. “With the new location at Rash Field, more people than ever will have their eyes set on the ultimate finish line – the end of Alzheimer’s, which now affects 97,000 Marylanders.”
Registration begins at 9 a.m., when Walkers can drop off donations, pick-up t-shirts, take team photos and decorate posters and promise garden flowers. They also can enjoy refreshments provided by Giant Food, Panera Bread and Baltimore Coffee & Tea and mingle with KHZTV’s VJ Tracy Hart, Miss Maryland Jade Kenny and Miss Maryland Teen Sarah Robinson, who will greet walkers and sign autographs.
At 10 a.m., WBAL-TV Anchor Stan Stovall will emcee a powerful opening ceremony focusing on the mission of the Alzheimer’s Association and honoring those affected by Alzheimer’s disease. Everyone is encouraged to stay after the 5K walk for fun activities, including a live performance by local rock band, Slow Lights, lunch from local food trucks, a photo booth and the Making Memories Kids’ Corner.
Participants can register as individuals or teams. Registration is free and those who raise at least $100 will receive a Walk to End Alzheimer’s t-shirt. This Fall, the Greater Maryland Chapter will host a total of six Walk to End Alzheimer’s events, made possible by statewide sponsors, Genesis Healthcare and Brightview Senior Living. Last year’s events in Maryland drew more than 5,000 walkers and raised over $900,000.
The Alzheimer’s Association Walk to End Alzheimer’s® is the world’s largest event to raise awareness and funds for Alzheimer’s care, support and research. Since 1989, the Alzheimer’s Association mobilized millions of Americans in the Alzheimer’s Association Memory Walk®; now the Alzheimer’s Association is continuing to lead the way with Walk to End Alzheimer’s. Together, we can end Alzheimer’s – the nation’s sixth-leading cause of death.
