The American Cancer Society’s Relay for Life will host “Bark for Life,” a dog walk and community event in Watertown’s Thompson Park on Saturday, October 18 from 12 p. m. to 3 p. m.
Registration will begin at noon in the Rotary Pavilion. An opening ceremony will mark the start of the walk at 1 p. m. There will be a number of activities, demonstrations and vendors participating in the fun throughout the afternoon.
According to Relay for Life, The Bark for Life is noted as “Honoring the life-long contributions of Canine Caregivers, who demonstrate unconditional love, joy, security, compassion and no judgments of cancer survivors’ abilities or appearances.”
The heart and soul of a Bark for Life event lies in celebrating the relationship between the loving companionship shared by cancer survivors and their canine friends. The American Cancer Society invites everyone who has ever experienced the love of a canine companion’s support along the harrowing path of cancer treatment, to join in the celebration of survival and pay their success forward by registering and joining in the fundraising efforts of a Bark for Life event.
Participants may pre-register online for $20. Registration on the day of the event will cost $25. Your pooch will be given a complimentary doggie bandanna to wear on the walk! Walkers are also required to bring written proof of their dog’s rabies vaccination in order to participate. All dogs must be on a leash and accompanied by an adult.
The afternoon includes:
- Pet Halloween Costume Contest
- Dog Demonstrations
- Vendor Displays and Specials/Information
- Pet Look-Alike Contest
- Featuring Long and Short Walk Routes
Cancer information will be available.
