Anna Cardwell, Honey Boo Boo’s older sister, breaks down on camera when she is asked by Entertainment Tonight about the man her mother Mama June brought back into their lives – 53-year-old Mark McDaniel, a convicted pedophile who forced 8-year-old Anna Cardwell to perform oral sex on him.
Writes the HuffPost on Oct 29: “Amid reports that her mother, June Shannon, is dating the man who was convicted of molesting her when she was 8 years old, Anna Cardwell is letting her voice be heard. The former ‘Here Comes Honey Boo Boo’ star, now 20 and married with a 2-year-old daughter, broke her silence last week when she confirmed that she had been a victim of abuse at the hands of her mother’s alleged boyfriend, Mark McDaniel.”
Anna, Mama June’s oldest daughter, broke down on Thursday’s “Entertainment Tonight” when discussing the evidence that linked her mother to her abuser and the resultant canceling of their reality show by TLC.
Speaking of her mother, Anna said: “You should have told him to leave! If that was me and I was there I would tell him, ‘You did this to yourself, and you’re not supposed to be around kids. Either you leave or I’ll call the cops and you’re a** will go back to jail,’” Anna said.
Asked what she would say if she ever came face-to-face with McDaniel, Anna said: “I would look at him in disgust. I would either spit in his face and say ‘Either you [expletive] leave or I will call the cops ’cause you’re not supposed to be here because you know what you did.’”
TLC pulled the plug on “Here Comes Honey Boo Boo” after allegations that “Mama June” was dating McDaniel surfaced. The reality television show followed the churlish family of Georgia child pageant contestant Alana “Honey Boo Boo” Thompson since 2012. The controversial show – seen by some as “must see” jocular television and others as nothing more than a look-in at a group of uncultured slobs – was yanked after producers found merit in the report that Honey’s mama was dating a convicted child molester.
Writes ABC News on Oct. 24: “The decision comes on the heels of a TMZ report that show matriarch Mama June, or June Shannon, is dating a convicted child molester.” Mama June, a mother of four including the now nine-year-old Alana, denied that she was dating a man whose court records show he was convicted in 2004 for aggravated child molestation.
“TLC has cancelled the series ‘Here Comes Honey Boo Boo’ and ended all activities around the series, effective immediately,” a spokesperson for the network told ABC News. “Supporting the health and welfare of these remarkable children is our only priority. TLC is faithfully committed to the children’s ongoing comfort and well-being.”
TMV broke the news that Mama June was carrying on a relationship with a man identified as McDaniel, a convicted pedophile who molested Anna but was also suspected of molesting other preteen girls as well. Per TMZ: “June was dating McDaniel at the same time he molested the child. We will not identify the child but it’s someone with whom June has contact.” That child was Anna.
McDaniel served ten years in federal prison and can be found in the Georgia sex offender registry. TMZ sources said June was seeing McDaniel since his release this summer, and had been “sneaking away from production of the show and meeting up with him” and “buying him various gifts.”
“It’s Mama’s fault. It’s her fault. She has to live with it,” Anna continued in the interview. “She has brought the past back and now she can’t get the past away now…I’m mad. I’m upset. I feel betrayed. I feel very hurt. That’s the main thing that I am – I feel very hurt that Mama let him come around.”
She’s smiling and giggling when he’s around. You know, he’s a child molester, Mama. He did this to me. Why would you let him come around the girls knowing what he did? – Anna Cardwell
Cardwell had some words for her sister Alana Thompson – Honey Boo Boo – who is only one year older than Anna was when she was abused. “Don’t get too close, don’t get too attached don’t be all lovey dovey on him because you never know what will happen.”
