I was introduced to Anna Lunoe music just last month. Eventhough she is already a major producer and touring DJ and has already plays big shows this year aka Coachella in the wildest tent the Sahara Tent. Now signed to Ultra Records she is headed out to promote her 5 star All Out EP OUT NOW. Listen to her MiNiMiX on soundcloud. I asked her about the project and other thoughts of hers.
I read that when you were younger, you would make mixtapes for your friends. What songs would you record for the tapes?
I would record songs off the radio – secretly staying up late waiting for the top 40 countdown to play the song im waiting for then quickly press record on my tape player! I’d record off my big brothers cd’s, and sometimes even put my tape player up against the tv speakers to record songs from movies or tv. Then I would go over them with my voice and host it like a radio show. Come to think of it, Its essentially exactly what I do for my current ‘Luney Tunes’ mix series’ ! Some things never change…
There are so many talented people that I meet from Australia. Where do you think all the inspiration comes from?
I think its a really nice breeding ground for talent. We are pretty educated musically, we have good youth radio, and generally there is alot of support around if we want to learn an instrument or become a part of something. Its a smaller community. And I think we are also exposed to a real cross section of influence from overseas which causes are very particular cultural cocktail, and therefore our take on music and art is a little different.
You have already had a pretty radical career. How did you get involved with Ministry of Sound?
They approached me about curating and mixing compilation cd’s in Australia in 2010. I did 3 cd’s and big tours of Australia. It was cool to be the first girl to ever do it.
What has been one of your favorite tours or shows you have played to date?
This summer I did a festival tour, it was so fun! All the shows were amazing, and it was really nice to take a break from clubs for a sec. Started with Coachella and ended with Lollapalooza – hit a bunch of spots in between..
You have worked around a lot of the big players in the game. What is some useful advice that you have been given?
Its not rocket science but the best advice is to have confidence in your ideas and believe in yourself. Art is an agreement, and if you believe in yourself, others will believe in you.
Satisfaction is such an amazing record to me. Dysect it for me? Where did it come from?
It started with that Bass sound. I was writing with Julian Bunetta (who i wrote alot with) and we found that bass sound and it just all fell together from there! I like the change up in the vocals mid way though and the second breakdown really takes it home for me! Its a slow burner that has a good pay off.
What is one of your most favorite albums to listen to currently?
Banks – Goddess
Where does Anna Lunoe go from here like literally and metaphorically?
All over America on the All Out Fall Out tour!!
This is a tour you cannot miss. At the end of the day only real music is gonna last, all the other bullshit is here today and gone tomorrow.
