The State Department has created its own, anti-ISIS video in order to combat videos released by the extreme Sunni jihadist group. The graphic video from the U.S. Department of State is a strong warning meant to dissuade possible recruits from joining the terrorist Muslim caliphate.
Writes CNN: “The brutal mock ISIS recruitment video starts with a simple phrase: ‘Run. Do not walk to ISIS land.’ Then a body is thrown off a cliff. Complete with crucifixions, Muslims being whipped, shot in the head at point-blank range and thrown into ditches, the grisly video is the latest State Department effort to push back against ISIS recruiting efforts by highlighting the group’s barbaric nature.”

The U.S. is pulling no punches when it comes to ISIS and their powerful media arm. Time magazine, in a piece entitled Why Westerners are Fighting for ISIS, said that “compared to other jihadist groups like al-Qaeda, ISIS is extremely welcoming to foreigners,” and commented that social media plays a tremendous role in spreading their so-called attractive ideologies.
While in the past jihadist groups operated in secretive online forums, ISIS spreads its message—both in English and Arabic—on Twitter and Facebook, which are inherently open to the public. With its sleekly produced propaganda videos, ISIS reaches young, restless Muslims or other devotees around the world with a cause that they see is worth fight for. – Time Magazine
The State Department estimates that approximately 12,000 foreigners have left home and traveled to Syria to join ISIS. Included among those are “dozens to hundreds of Americans.” The ISIS propaganda machine presents an image of themselves as romanticized freedom fighters, devoted and noble-minded, acting on behalf of righteous tenets of Islam.
“Our mission is to expose the facts about terrorists and their propaganda. Don’t be misled by those who break up families and destroy their true heritage,” writes the State Department on the campaign’s Facebook page.
The video, produced by the U.S. State Department’s Center for Strategic Counterterrorism Communications, carries a sarcastic tone, from its opening satirical invite to join ISIS, to its display of shocking, cavalier killing and mocking what a new recruit can “educate” themselves with. Those considering an Islamic terrorist career with ISIS will learn skill sets such as “blowing up mosques,” “crucifying and executing Muslims,” and “plundering public resources,” the video advertises.
The latest anti-ISIS video ends with a sardonic incentive to would-be jihadists.
“Travel is inexpensive, because you won’t need a return ticket!” A body is then chucked off a cliff.
