Arnold Schwarzenegger is a busy man doing what he does best. The action movie star has three movies due out in 2014 and another “Terminator” movie out in 2015. Despite his hectic schedule, the former governor of California still finds time to post on his Twitter and Facebook pages to relate to fans. Schwarzenegger also fills his spare time with fatherly duties while promoting new films.
“The Expendables 3” hits theaters Aug. 15, 2014, and stars the biggest names in action movies over the past 30 years. Schwarzenegger reprises his role as Trench and stars alongside Sylvester Stallone, Jet Li, Jason Statham, Antonio Banderas, Wesley Snipes, Dolph Lundgren, Mel Gibson and Harrison Ford. New posters, TV spots and trailers promoting the film are released regularly. Schwarzenegger posts news regarding the flick through his social media presence.
In the new action flick, “Sabotage,” Schwarzenegger plays a DEA agent whose team gets taken out one by one after a raid on a drug cartel’s safe house. Fellow action star Sam Worthington appears with Schwarzenegger in the spring 2014 release.
“Maggie” is a zombie movie starring Abigail Breslin as a teenager infected with a disease that slowly turns ordinary people into zombies. Schwarzenegger plays Maggie’s father, Wade, a bearded farmer who struggles to come to terms with Maggie’s transformation into a flesh-eating monster. Filming for “Maggie” began in late 2013, shortly after “The Expendables 3” wrapped. The low-budget post-apocalyptic horror thriller is set for release Nov. 14, 2014. This is the first zombie flick for Schwarzenegger.
Perhaps the biggest jump-start to the action star’s post-political career comes in 2015 with “Terminator: Genesis.” The iconic film franchise stars Emilia Clarke (“Game of Thrones”) as Sarah Connor, Jason Clarke as her son John Connor and Jai Courtney as time-traveling human, Kyle Reese. Schwarzenegger, of course, plays the cyborg that made him famous.
The original T-800’s scenes will be done filming by the end of July 2014. Despite machinery underneath, this time the cyborg shows signs of aging as the menace from the future has human flesh on the outside. Time travel figures more prominently in the new installment of the franchise.
“Terminator: Genesis” is directed by Alan Taylor (“Game of Thrones”) and is produced by Skydance Productions, the company behind “Star Trek: Into Darkness” and “World War Z.” The film shoots in New Orleans before going to sound stage work. The movie is set for release July 1, 2015, more than 10 years since Schwarzenegger last played the T-800 cyborg.
The actor has been active on social media. A recent Facebook post asks fans “Ready?” Schwarzenegger then links to a new “The Expendables 3” poster. The former politician also linked to a Facebook fan page promoting Schwarzenegger for president in 2016, even though the Austrian immigrant cannot legally run for the office because he was not born in the United States. The patriotic celebrity posted a old photo of himself as a bodybuilder dressed in red, white and blue attire in front of an American flag for Independence Day 2014.
The soccer fan posted his support for two soccer nations during the 2014 FIFA World Cup in Brazil. On July 1, Schwarzenegger congratulated Team USA on its “great World Cup” and then stated “we’ll be back.” Shortly after Germany’s 1-0 victory over Argentina in the tournament’s final match, the native Austrian expressed pride for the German team. “Now you have the trophy to match your skill,” Schwarzenegger posted to his Twitter account.
Non-film Work and Personal Life
Movie buffs can bid on a leather biker outfit worn by Schwarzenegger in “Terminator 2: Judgment Day” Oct. 1 through Oct. 16, 2014. The outfit is part of 375 movie props up for auction by Prop Store in London, including Marty McFly’s hoverboard from “Back to the Future Part II.”
The action star took time out from work to have lunch with his four children and estranged wife Maria Shriver. The family was spotted at The Ivy in Santa Monica, Calif., to celebrate Father’s Day 2014.
Future Projects in Development
Beyond “Terminator: Genesis,” Schwarzenegger plans to star in “The Legend of Conan” which is currently in development. Despite his age, the actor says he works out twice per day and will be fit enough to take on the muscular role of Conan the Barbarian.
“Triplets” is another iconic sequel in development for Schwarzenegger. In this sequel to “Twins,” Julius and Vincent Benedict discover they have a long-lost sibling. No release date has been announced for this project, but Eddie Murphy is set to star alongside Schwarzenegger and Danny DeVito.
The actor has remained busy after leaving the California statehouse. Since 2010, Schwarzenegger has worked on theatrical projects, and fans of the Austrian-American muscle man will keep seeing the action star for many years to come. The author of 2013’s release “Total Recall: My Unbelievably True Life Story” has no plans to retire any time soon.
