One thing is for certain. There will be a whole lot of crying and arguing on VH1’s new reality show “Atlanta Exes,” which airs on Monday, Aug. 18.
Rappers may have put the smackdown on TLC’s “Starter Wives Confidential,” but athletes, R&B singers and comedians have either turned in the towel, are indifferent or are applauding their exes for making that extra income in the reality world.
On the new “Atlanta Exes” series, the ex roundup includes Monyetta Shaw (ex-fiancee of Ne-Yo), Tameka Raymond (ex-wife of Usher Raymond IV), Christina Johnson (ex-wife of Cee-Lo Green), Sheree Buchanan (ex-wife of football star Ray Buchanan) and Torrei Hart (ex-wife of comedian Kevin Hart).
Unlike “Basketball Wives” and “Love & Hip Hop,” these aren’t random women who have primarily dated and been dismissed. This show is more along the lines of what should’ve been “Starter Wives Confidential” with stars who put a ring on it, and publicly confirmed relationships with all of these women at one point and time. Some still have positive relationships with their exes now.
Kevin Hart already touched on cheating on his wife in the 2011 comedic documentary “Laugh At My Pain,” but there’s been plenty of back and forth with who that person was. Torrei Hart says it’s his current girlfriend Eniko Parrish. Kevin Hart has said repeatedly that the two were split up before Parrish came into the picture. From the previews, chances are high that Parrish’s name will come up again.
Usher has made countless songs about Tameka Raymond so she may be another story viewers have heard before.
Monyetta Shaw, Sheree Buchanan and Christina Johnson’s stories may be newer to viewing audiences though. Judging from Ne-Yo’s reaction to the show (see video to the left), he’s in that “applauding extra income” group who is confident that his ex-fiancee won’t be jumping on tables or beating anybody up.
However, as with all female-dominated reality shows, there will be some conflict.
Fans of “Love & Hip Hop Atlanta” who miss DJ Traci Steele and DJ Baby Drew being on the show will catch a glimpse of Steele on another tirade during an episode of “Atlanta Exes.”
