HydroPeptide is a skin care brand located in the heart of Issaquah, Washington. Using 62 of the most effective peptides on the market, HydroPeptide will give you real results. Recently, I had the opportunity to talk to the CEO and co-formulator of the brand, April Zangl. Here is what she had to say…
(Q) Tell me a little more about the HydroPeptide brand…
HydroPeptide’s skin care formulations are unique in that they include clinical levels of more than sixty different peptides. Peptides are short chains of amino acids or “protein fragments” capable of cellular communication – they strengthen and feed skin in many different ways, resulting in a complexion that behaves and looks younger. HydroPeptide formulations not only feature peptides with wrinkle-reducing properties, they also contain peptide varieties shown to combat sagging, discoloration and all signs of skin aging. These peptide combinations are blended with a variety of proven, skin-enhancing ingredients that include hyaluronic acid, botanical stem cells and antioxidants to stabilize the delivery of the peptides and activate epidermal stem cells which ultimately restores and preserves skin’s youthfulness.
(Q) What inspired you to create this line of skin care?
First and foremost, HydroPeptide is about results however we also strive to provide a luxurious experience. Our goal is to make skin care less of a chore and more of a pampering daily ritual. Our products combine the best of science and nature to produce maximum results without causing irritation or downtime – we have proven that you don’t have to injure the skin to improve it.
(Q) Currently, what are your most popular products? Tell me a little more about your best sellers…
Our hero products are our Anti-Wrinkle Polish and Plump Peel, Power Serum: Line Lifting Transformation and Eye Authority: Dark Circles, Puffiness, Fine Lines. These products are loved by celebrities, their makeup artists, Spa Directors and dermatologists. The Peel is a two-step zero down-time peel featuring Vitamin C-infused professional microdermabrasion crystals and moisture-binding peptides. It is a favorite of Spa Directors and celebrity makeup artists who want to get their client’s skin smooth and glowing on the day of a special event. This treatment helps maintain skin between facial appointments and creates an immediately firm, radiant and glowing canvas for any makeup applied afterwards. Power Serum is also loved by celebrities and their makeup artists as it leaves skin tighter, brighter and smoother – any makeup applied afterwards looks less like makeup and more like amazing skin. This serum contains voluminizing peptides for improved skin plumpness and volume within hours and a growth factor activating flower bulb extract for wrinkle-smoothing results and improved firmness with continued use.
Eye Authority works to diminish dark circles by day and boost collagen as a night repair eye cream. This eye cream features 13 peptides to do it all, from minimizing dark circles and puffiness to optimizing collagen and illuminating the eye area. Eye Authority is often used to put the post-facial finishing touch on a client’s skin and recommended as a home care product. HydroPeptide Solar Defense: Broad Spectrum SPF 30 is another one, it is a mineral sunscreen for the face featuring color-changing spheres that self-adjust to match all skin tones, preventing the “white” sunscreen look even in photographs while producing an even-toned and glowing finish. In addition to providing broad spectrum protection, Solar Defense contains a built-in antioxidant treatment consisting of green tea and acai berry for an additional layer of free radical damage protection. This is another product that is used by top facialists to finish a facial and send clients on their way protected from the elements and with a flawless finish.
(Q) Antioxidants have proved to be important to our skin. I have to ask, how important are antioxidants in skin care?
Antioxidants offer up numerous health benefits but are best known for their ability to neutralize free radicals. Free radicals and inflammation play a part in aging. They are unstable oxygen molecules created both internally and externally from the sun, pollution and smoke that are missing an electron and look to take one from healthy cells which results in cellular damage. They initiate the inflammatory process which breaks down collagen, elastin and the functionality of healthy cells leading to lines, wrinkles, dullness, photo damage and uneven texture. Fueling the skin with a daily dose of antioxidants helps hinder the process that activates the accelerated aging process. Antioxidants neutralize free radicals by acting as a barrier by donating their own electrons to counteract damage and the oxidation process. We think antioxidants are so important in skin care that Solar Defense, our sunscreen for the face, contains a built-in antioxidant treatment consisting of only the most powerful antioxidants for example, acai berry because it contains 10 times the antioxidant power of red grapes. The entire HydroPeptide collection incorporates over 70 antioxidant rich botanicals that provide broad spectrum protection against the numerous environmental and internal aggressors we’re exposed to every day.
(Q) Tell me a little more about your HydroStem+6 Anti-Wrinkle Stem Cell Regeneration Serum…
HydroStem+6 is your crucial skin care step before sunscreen – you’ll no longer want to leave home without this defensive layer of six different botanical stem cells supercharged by a Co-Q10-activating peptide. The synergy between the variety of plant stem cells and this peptide shown to replenish the skin’s natural decline of the antioxidant Co-Q10 neutralizes free radical damage and ensures longevity within epidermal stem cells for your clearest, most radiant and resilient complexion. Dual action peptides help prevent and reverse fine lines and wrinkles.
(Q) As a woman who has suffered from acne on and off for many years, I have discovered various ways of managing this particular skin tribulation. The only “con” I have right now is some facial scarring. I have to ask, can HydroPeptide help with acne scars?
HydroPeptide’s Even Out Skin Brightening Pigment Corrector is ideal for fading all types of hyperpigmentation including post-acne scarring. Even Out has replaced hydroquinone with a blend of drug-free alternatives shown to create a more even skin tone. In particular, Niacinamide, also known as Vitamin B3, has been shown to produce a more even skin tone and to mitigate acne and the red marks it leaves behind. The Beta White peptide is included to inhibit enzyme reactions that cause uneven pigmentation. Lactic acid is a milk-derived alpha hydroxy acid that helps fade post-acne pigmentation by sloughing off the top surface of the skin. This product helps fade and smooth the appearance of acne scarring by preventing the scar from darkening, gently exfoliating and lightening any remaining pigmentation.
(Q) What products would you recommend for acne scars?
In addition to HydroPeptide Even Out, we are launching the Anti-Wrinkle + Clarify collection, a regimen that is designed to address both acne and anti-aging concerns. In particular, the Clarifying Toner: Balance Control Pads and Redefining Serum: Ultra Sheer Clearing Treatment not only help to clear existing acne but also help prevent post-acne scarring. The Clarifying Toner contains skin clarifying peptides derived from crushed pearls for a more even skin tone. Sea buckthorn is a mild analgesic included in the Redefining Serum to discourage scratching and picking and help reduce the likelihood of acne scarring.
(Q) Your products work to correct and repair wrinkles, but do they also work to prevent them, as well?
HydroStem+6 is a perfect example of a product that not only helps correct already existing wrinkles, it also helps prevent new ones from forming. The blend of botanical stem cells includes gardenia and Echinacea stem cells to help prevent collagen degradation that leads to sagging and wrinkles. HydroStem+6 also features a peptide that stimulates Co-Q10, an antioxidant naturally found in the body that combats premature aging and declines naturally with age.
(Q) For all of those skin care enthusiasts reading this interview, what would you like them to know? What is next for HydroPeptide?
The future of peptides is immense and continues to evolve. There are 3.2 million possible pentapeptide combinations based on the 20 proteinogenic amino acids and an unfathomable number of unique peptide combinations when you consider over 140 natural amino acids exist and an endless combination of peptide lengths can be made. The sixty two peptides found in HydroPeptide formulations are paving the way for future advancements in the use of peptides for topical anti-aging solutions. Science is just beginning to realize the full potential of peptides and we’re constantly striving to create formulas that produce results beyond what is expected from topically applied products.
