Too Faced Cosmetics is a world-renowned makeup brand located in the heart of Irvine, CA. I first discovered Too Faced after using their Shadow Insurance Primer and ever since, I have been a huge fan of the brand. Recently, I had the opportunity to talk to one of the men behind the brand, co-founder and creative director, Jerrod Blandino. Here is what he had to say…
(Q) Hello Jerrod. How are you? Tell me a little more about the Too Faced brand. Behind every great creator, every great innovator lies a major source of influence or inspiration. Tell me, what inspired you to create this brand?
I wanted every woman to feel beautiful and to own her pretty – whatever that means. Maybe she’s soft and pretty one day and glamorous and sexy the next. As long as she feels amazing and rocks it with confidence then I’ve done my job! We just celebrated our 16th birthday and we are so excited to keep doing what we love – helping women look and feel their most beautiful. We believe that it’s fun to be a girl and we want our Too Faced girl to own her look and feel inspired every day.
(Q) I think it’s so interesting that you use to work at the makeup counter. It’s almost as if this were meant to happen, that you were meant to do this. Currently, what are Too Faced’s most popular products? Tell me a little more about your best selling products…
Here at Too Faced, we are all about bronzers! We want to change the way women look at bronzers. It’s not about matching your skin tone, it’s about building a wardrobe of looks (the way you would with denim). Going to a fabulous party? Put on our Pink Leopard for a little shimmer! At the office – wear our Chocolate Soleil because it’s matte, so you get the great bronzed look that’s still office appropriate. Our Little Black Book of Bronzers was launched on TooFaced.com on May 16th 2014 to perfectly illustrate the concept – it was our eight amazing bronzers in one seriously limited-edition book. My sister survived stage four melanoma, so it’s very important for us to give women a gorgeous, but safe glow year-round.
(Q) Wow, what an amazing story. I absolutely love your bronzers, as they are amazing! This book is something to value and is a true must-have. A lot of my blog readers are raving about the Chocolate Bar Eyeshadow Collection. Tell me a little more about this product…
I was in Hawaii getting a chocolate facial and was loving the moisturizing and anti-aging properties of the cocoa. I did a little digging into cocoa and it’s amazing for your skin. This inspired the Chocolate Soleil bronzer, which was such a runaway hit that we couldn’t wait to incorporate cocoa into other products. Chocolate Bar was born soon after and the colors and texture can’t be beat.
(Q) Wow, that is amazing Jerrod. I have to tell you, I am a huge fan of the Chocolate Bar palette. In fact, it is one of my favorite beauty products ever. It smells like chocolate too, which I love. What is the Natural Eyes palette like? Tell me more about this product…
As a makeup artist, the most requested look I got was a perfect natural eye, and today the greatest trend is to appear like you roll out of bed looking perfect. This inspired me to create the palette so that women could get the look easily every day. It’s now an award-winning best-selling palette and we just revamped it with three awesome new shades.
(Q) I am really loving the idea that you are starting to real emphasize on brows. In fact, I am in search of a great brow product. You have ‘Brow Envy’ as well as ‘Bulletproof Brows’, which both look amazing. Tell me a little more about these products…
Brows frame and change your face – they’re a necessity for a complete polished look! Brow Envy is a good starter kick with brow newbies – it has everything you need for a great brow, including stencils to help everyone find their perfect shape. Bulletproof Brows is for the more serious brow groomer who has been searching for a product that will last all day and night.
(Q) You have quite a few products that are vegan-friendly, as you have quite a few that are paraben-free. That is quite impressive. I love the fact that you do NOT test on animals. I am sure Clover loves this idea too. I have to ask, what is your stance on animal cruelty?
We are absolutely against it. You don’t need to hurt an animal to look beautiful. We’ve worked for years to make our Teddy Bear Hair Brushes – consulting top wig makers on how to make synthetic fabrics look and feel like natural hair. We couldn’t be happier with the final product – all animal approved! I’ve been a vegetarian for 26 years, and it’s always been one of my biggest passions and priorities to be cruelty-free.
(Q) Have you considered starting a skin care line to add to the brand?
There are so many fantastic skin care brands out there – I love skin care, but am going to leave that to the experts, like my good friend Dr. Brandt. We love makeup and color – I’ll stay in my beauty lane.
(Q) I love Dr. Brandt! I have to ask, Jerrod, aside from makeup and beauty, what are your other areas of interest?
Spending time with my family, Jeremy and Clover, makes me happiest. And we volunteer with Best Friends Animal Society – it always makes us smile helping our furry friends.
