Call it the latest episode in left’s continuing war on conservative women. In an extremely biased article published Wednesday at the Washington Post, David Wasserman, House editor for The Cook Political Report, called Louisiana state Rep. Lenar Whitney, a 55-year-old Republican woman running for the state’s open 6th District seat “frightening” and “fact-averse.”
The headline of his online screed tells the entire story. According to Wasserman, Whitney was the “most frightening candidate I’ve met in seven years interviewing congressional hopefuls.”
“It’s tough to decide which party’s worst nightmare she would be,” he wrote. Part of the reason is a YouTube video in which she declares that global warming is a hoax. Wasserman said that when pressed on her sources, “she froze and was unable to cite a single scientist, journal or news source to back up her beliefs.”
He then attempted to paint her as a birther, asking if she believes Obama was born in the United States. After she told him it was a matter of some controversy, he said her campaign consultants “quickly whisked her out of the room, accusing me of conducting a ‘Palin-style interview.'”
“It was the first time in hundreds of Cook Political Report meetings that a candidate has fled the room,” he said. But Whitney Communication Director Chris Comeaux called it another case of “liberal elites hating conservative women,” the Daily Caller said.
According to Comeaux, the campaign found Wasserman’s questioning insulting but “put up” with it for about 20 or 30 minutes. But, Comeaux added, “at some point, we decide to leave.”
“We were just like, this isn’t productive,” Comeaux added. “You’re just trying to get her to say something stupid.”
Comeaux also said the entire interview felt like a set-up. They were surprised by the questioning, considering the outlet’s reputation.
“They’re supposed to analyze the race. They’re supposed to talk about demographics. They’re supposed to talk about geography. They’re supposed to talk about our opposition. But he just jumped her from the beginning. It was just non-stop,” Comeaux added.
Comeaux also said Wasserman spent the interview “winking” at young interns taking notes in the room. According to Comeaux, it was “like they’ve all planned this out, he’s got this crazy woman coming in this afternoon, ‘I’m going to really give her a hard interview and make you guys laugh.’”
Making matters worse, the Post initially featured a picture of Michele Bachmann instead of Whitney. Comeaux said the Post used “a picture of Michele Bachmann looking stupid, sitting in the chair, with her legs up, where you can almost see up her skirt. That was the photo they chose for the Lenar Whitney article.”
By Wednesday afternoon, Whitney’s photo accompanied the article. Bachmann’s photo, however, was still used on Twitter.
“They are lumping all the conservative women together,” Comeaux told Alex Pappas. “It’s just oh, you’re conservative and you’re a woman, we must destroy you.”
As we have reported numerous times, the liberal bias in the so-called “mainstream media” has gotten so bad a majority no longer trust or believe what gets reported. No doubt, the bias and outright disdain shown conservatives by many members of what is obviously a “Democrat-media complex” will only get worse this election season.
