Black cat chocolates are a delicious Halloween treat. They are quite simple to make and taste great. It is always fun to let the children lend a helping hand when making these indulgences. They also are a big hit at the office as well as church functions.
To make these festive treats you will need ounces semi-sweet chocolate, finely chopped 1 tbsp of butter, softened to room temperature, ½ cup of heavy cream, 12 ounces of chocolate candy coating, ¼ cup of semi-sweet chocolate chips, 14 cup of white chocolate chips and ¼ cup of butterscotch chips.
Situate the chopped semi-sweet chocolate chips and butterscotch chips in a medium bowl, and put aside.
Empty the heavy cream into a small saucepan over medium-high heat, and take the cream to a simmer. When it’s near boiling, take it off the heat.
Decant the hot cream over the chopped chocolate. Let the cream and chocolate assemble together and soften for one minute, then lightly whisk them together. Once the chocolate is entirely melted and smooth, add the room temperature butter and whisk until it’s mixed. You now have a ganache.
Press a piece of plastic wrap on top of the ganache, and refrigerate until the ganache is firm enough to scoop and roll, which is generally about 2 hours.
Once the ganache is solid, dust your palms evenly with cocoa powder and use a small teaspoon to roll the ganache into tiny balls, then place them on a foil-covered baking sheet. Re-apply the cocoa powder when needed to keep the truffles from attaching to your hands.
After all of the truffles are formed, take the semi sweet chocolate chips and press two chocolate chips into the top of each truffle to characterize the cat’s ears. If the truffles are too rigid melt the chocolate candy coating and put a daub of coating on the bottom of each chocolate chip to help the ears stick.
After all of the truffles have their ears attached, use a fork to dip them into the melted candy coating. Put the dipped truffles on the foil-covered baking sheet.
After all of the truffles have been dipped in chocolate, it’s time to make cute cat faces. Simply melt the white chocolate chips in a small microwave-safe bowl. Dispense the melted white chocolate into a plastic baggie with a tiny hole already cut in the corner.
Using the white chocolate, append eyes, a tiny triangle nose, and a few whiskers to the front of each truffle for the feline’s face. Top off the cats by dotting a little bit of chocolate on the white eyes to embody the pupils. Let the chocolate set entirely before serving.
Store the tasty Black Cat Truffles in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to two weeks. For the best taste and texture, bring them to room temperature before serving.
These little chocolates are always well received, particularly amongst cat lovers.
