Forecast discussion: As expected, a cold front now passing into eastern New York and Pennsylvania brought mostly cloudy skies this morning, with a few passing showers. The current radar imagery shows showers passing through Northern New England. Here in Boston, we will see an isolated shower from now until early Friday morning. From there, the front will move offshore, and winds will shift to the north and north-northeast.
A very strong high pressure ridge will build over Southern New England for Friday, giving us bright sunshine and autumn like temperatures. Also, the humidity in the air will disappear. We will see temperatures struggle to reach 70 degrees. Lows during Friday night will reach the lower 50’s.
As we move into Saturday, a weak area of low pressure will form over the Mid-Atlantic. This low will help bring the risk of some showers during the afternoon. The low will quickly move out to sea before dawn, and skies will slowly clear during dawn. We should see mostly sunny skies through the rest of the weekend.
A new cold front will bring the risk for some showers by early Tuesday morning. The front will move offshore by Tuesday evening, as a new high pressure system brings mostly sunny skies for the rest of the weekend. Temperatures will feel like fall, as our highs will try to reach 70, and lows will fall into the lower 50’s by Tuesday night.
Finally, the tropics became active this morning, as the first advisory on Tropical Depression Six was made by the National Hurricane Center at 11 a.m. Thursday morning. As of 5 p.m. the center was located at 17N 38.2W, or about 940 miles west of the Cape Verde Islands. Maximum sustained winds around the center are 35 mph, and is moving to the northwest at 15 mph. The tropical is predicted to become a hurricane by Monday afternoon. However, the track is forecast to keep moving in a northwest direction. So, it will not affect any land masses in that time period.
