On Saturday, November 8, Jorge Luis Lopez and Marile Lopez will receive the 2014 Charles “Bebe” Rebozo Humanitarian Award at the annual “Wild About Kids” Gala hosted by the Boys & Girls Clubs of Miami-Dade. The award is one of the most prestigious honors bestowed by the Boys & Girls Clubs and is highly-respected within the non-profit community.
The Charles “Bebe” Rebozo Humanitarian Award recognizes an individual, family or organization that has demonstrated “overwhelming support and constant dedication” to improving the lives of children in both the Boys & Girls Clubs’ and in the local community at large.
“Mr. & Mrs. Lopez have helped change, guide and save the lives of hundreds of thousands of children in Miami-Dade County. We are truly grateful for their continued support and are pleased to honor them with this award,” stated Alex Rodriguez-Roig, president of Boys & Girls Clubs of Miami-Dade.
Mr. and Mrs. Lopez are the principal and chief financial officer, respectively, of The Lopez Law Firm. In 2013, they were awarded the James W. McLamore Outstanding Volunteer Award by the Association of Fundraising Professionals. Both serve on the boards of several charitable and faith-based non-profit organizations, including Miami Children’s Hospital, the National YoungArts Foundation and the Catholic Association of Hispanic Leaders. They are also serving as chairs of the 2015 American Red Cross Ball committee.
“We are deeply honored to be receiving this award,” said Jorge Luis and Marile Lopez. “As dedicated parents, we see the effect that supportive and positive learning environments have on children. We hope that our actions will inspire others to support this wonderful organization that offers these opportunities so many children in Miami-Dade County.”
The “Wild About Kids” Gala is an annual event of the B&GC, now in its eighth year. The gala will begin with a cocktail reception and continue with an awards ceremony, dinner, dancing and live entertainment. The night will conclude with an after-party where guests can enjoy an open bar, DJ entertainment and small bites.
The Boys & Girls Clubs of Miami-Dade serves more than 10,000 children across its five club locations in Miami-Dade. Each club is open seven days a week, including holidays, and offers children a safe space where they can receive homework help, socialize with their peers and participate in sports, art and music. The clubs’ programming covers a variety of topics, including health and life skills, leadership development and career preparation.
