Brandi Brandt, 45, the former Playboy centerfold who was married to Mötley Crüe bassist Nikki Sixx from 1989 through 1996, was sentenced on Aug. 29 to spend the next six years behind bars for her involvement in a cocaine trafficking syndicate that shipped cocaine from America to Australia, according to The Huffington Post. Brandt, who has appeared in several films and played herself in a 1989 episode of “Married with Children,” pleaded guilty earlier this year to one charge of conspiring to import drugs.
The model turned actress turned drug smuggler was involved with a group that “hid packages of cocaine on Qantas and United Airlines passenger planes that flew from California to Sydney in 2007.” Associated with that drug smuggling ring were employees of a catering company working for the airlines that snapped up the coke after the planes reached their destinations. Brandt was accused of being involved in the drug trafficking operation between July and December 2007.
Brandt’s defense lawyer pleaded in court for leniency for his client, admitting to the fact that the former model made some seriously bad choices as she played out her part in the drug smuggling operation, adding that “she’d had a hard life with a dysfunctional upbringing.” The judge overseeing the case agreed to a point, admitting that he felt Brandt’s role in the operation to be “substantially lower” than others in the group.
“She’s had it tough — she had a pretty mixed-up childhood.”
“She was using drugs as a teen, her father was using drugs. … She replicated, in some sense, the lifestyle of her parents.” ~ Brandt’s defense attorney
The lawyer argued that Brandt has gotten her life back on track since getting busted for smuggling and is now clean and sober. “She is unlikely to ever be in trouble again,” the lawyer said.
Playboy’s March 1990 cover girl was extradited from Los Angeles to Australia in 2013 and has been in a Sydney jail cell ever since. She could have been sentenced to life in prison, according to The Daily News. The earliest that Brandt will be eligible for parole is November 2016. She and Nikki Sixx have three children together.
