I am usually not one to be politically open. This years voting ticket I might be. Brevard county public schools is asking to raise sales tax. Why would the school system need more money you might ask. In short, the proceeds from the lottery (you remember the lottery money that was supposed to go to the schools) is being funneled through the state and as such is not getting to the schools. Who is kidding whom? I would love to see where all this money is going. I can guarantee most of it is going to special interests and to the politicians as a paycheck.
If the government truly wants to balance a budget, fire the financial analysts right now and hire a single, working parent who is making it on their own. I am sure there is more than a few people out there who are making it on their own without any help. The way the cost of living is and now the new health care laws, it’s a miracle anyone in the middle class is still able to live without financial aid.
Before I go on a tirade concerning the economic status of the nation, and the neglect of the politicians, and start pointing fingers at people who decide where money gets distributed i.e. politicians before armed forces, I would just like to point out that this voting season, we do have a choice to raise taxes or not for education.
The biggest question on my agenda, will the raise in taxes actually go to the schools or will the government be able to allot it to other venues. I also wonder if the raise in taxes will go to education or just to board members and other officers associated with the public school system? The teachers have not had raises for years. Will they see any of this supposed money? Will the county buy more books or new books? Are there going to be new school supplies such as computers or tablets in the budget? What will this tax money be used for?
If you listen to the political ads, the raise in taxes will be allotted to the public county school system. The money does not have to go to bettering education. It just has to be spent in the name of education. I would be completely for this raise in taxes if the money was being used the way it should be. Unfortunately, as we can see from past and current spending, money does not always go where it should, where it helps, or where we are told it is meant to go. Vote wisely and then donate directly to your area schools.
