BURBANK, Calif. – The Burbank Comedy Festival is pleased to announce the Fruit Cocktail Showcase with host Jen Kober (Curb Your Enthusiasm, Treme) featuring a line-up of new and emerging comedians, each offering unique, insightful, and hysterical opinions on all things LGBT at Flappers Comedy Club and Restaurant, Wednesday, August 20 at 10:00 PM.
Kober, originally from Lake Charles, Louisiana, bounded onto the national stage playing colleges, theatres and comedy clubs all over the country and bringing crowds to their feet with her original blend of stand-up, improvised rock-n-roll comedy, and personal stories about coming out. Leslie Berman of The Times of Southwest Louisiana writes, “Kober is one of the most talented comics of our time. I have been betting on her to find her niche and go national since the first time I saw her. I thought: She’s got to be our 21st Century Lucille Ball, and that’s no exaggeration. If you´re twenty years younger than me, think hipper Tracey Ullman.”
Kober will be joined in the Fruit Cocktail Showcase by Dana Eagle (The Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson, Comedy Central, Comics Unleashed, Last Comic Standing.) Eagle was recently showcased in the series Mood Disorders: A Light-Hearted Romp Through Crippling Depression featured at the Los Angeles Women´s Theatre Festival; Kyle Shire (The Comedy Store, Nick & Kyle’s Cobra Juice, Zanies Chicago), Melanie Case (Lesbianism: The Ultimate Form of Birth Control, The Comedy Store, Haha Café), Mike Bobbitt (WTF Podcast, Comedy Central’s TripTank, XM/Sirius Radio), Jason Visenberg (Comedy Car Hole), Owen Alabado (Jimmy Kimmel Live, The Michigan Lesbian and Gay Comedy Festival), Stacy Roquemore (Comedy Works, Denver Improv), Charlie Robinson, Heather Turman (Sex Sent Me To The ER, The Gay List, Founding member The Young Hot & Gay Tour), Justin Matson (Fusion TV, Comic Strip Live), Brent Parris (The Comedy Store, Inside Jokes), and Brother THE (Flappers Comedy Club, The Ice House, The Comedy Store.)
In addition to the Fruit Cocktail Showcase, the Burbank Comedy Festival will feature Adam Carolla, Jeff Garlin, Wendy Liebman, and more than 200 emerging comedians from across the country, Sunday, August 17 through Saturday, August 23. Hosted by Flappers Comedy Club and Restaurant, and packed with more than 50 special events, the first-ever Burbank comedy festival will include underground showcases, classes, workshops, industry panels, after parties, live festival podcasts, and performances showcasing international talent, off-beat, variety, college, all-female, LBGT, cruise liner and kids comedy.
The festival is dedicated to discovering America’s next comedy superstar. By pairing emerging comedians with established headliners, the Burbank Comedy Festival is intended to give the next generation of talent the opportunity to perform and connect with top entertainment professionals, to encourage live comedy, and do some funny business.
