Cameron Diaz is fit and fab at 42, and embraces getting older. While most people (especially beautiful celebrities) dread aging, Diaz loves every step of her evolution.
“I love it,” Cameron told Esquire. “So much s– just falls away. Fear, mostly. It’s the best age. That’s when a woman knows how to work things, or she doesn’t care about that anymore. You just stop being afraid. You don’t worry about what men think.”
Cameron goes nude on screen for the first time ever, in her new film, “Sex Tape,” and was unfazed by the experience. “It’s a first for me,” she said of the racy nude scene. “But Jason (Segel) gets naked, too. It’s just a part of the role. So I did it. I mean, you see everything.”
Diaz, a former model who has been celebrated for her athletic beauty for the past two decades, said being young has its advantages, but getting older has given her confidence and perspective. Diaz, a longtime workout fanatic who follows a balanced low-carb diet, said she’s fitter now than she was during her 20s.
Low Carb Diet and Pilates Workouts Keep Her Hot
Diaz, who has a super-fit body a woman of any age would envy, said her anti-aging beauty secrets include daily workouts, a low-carb diet that doesn’t emphasize calorie restriction, and a positive attitude.
Diaz’s daily exercise routine includes running, strength-training, and Pilates workouts. Cameron recently shared more of her anti-aging secrets on the Dr. Oz Show. Cameron said she isn’t opposed to plastic surgery if it makes you feel better, but won’t get Botox anymore because she didn’t like how it made her look.
These days, Diaz’s low-carb diet consists mostly of healthy proteins such as chicken, fish, steak and shrimp, and grilled vegetables. Cameron also eats sprouts and seeds and avoids white foods such as white bread and pasta. Her preferred breakfast is egg whites, sautéed tomatoes, and steel-cut oatmeal.
Cameron has starred in numerous blockbuster films, but said writing her fitness book, The Body Book, is one of her proudest achievements. Diaz said she penned the book to encourage and inspire other women to celebrate their bodies and take control of their health.
While diet and exercise help you look good, Diaz said it has an even greater impact on your emotional and psychological health. “We concentrate too much on what’s happening on the outside,” she said. “If you take care of what’s going on in the inside, then you should have no problems.”
‘I Don’t Regret Not Having Children‘
Cameron said overhauling her diet made a huge difference in her skin and her energy level. “I used to eat fried food from morning to night when I was in my 20s,” Diaz told USA Today.
“As I get older, I realized I was working a little bit harder at digesting what I was eating, and I thought it is not fair to my body to keep doing this. If you are giving it a bunch of crap all the time, it will break down quicker and deteriorate quicker, so I stopped.”
As to constant questions about why she never had children, that, too, is something Diaz does not regret. She said she values her freedom and enjoys not having the responsibility that being a mother entails.
“It’s so much more work to have children,” Cameron said. “To have lives besides your own that you are responsible for – I didn’t take that on. A baby – that’s all day, every day for 18 years. Not having a baby might really make things easier, but that doesn’t make it an easy decision. I like protecting people, but I was never drawn to being a mother.”
