A hit-and-run attack in Canada has left 1 military soldier killed and another soldier injured. The suspect has been identified as Martin Rouleau, a 25-year-old radical Muslim convert who is said to have connections with terrorist beliefs. News Max describes the details that have surfaced in this tragedy near Montreal this Tuesday, October 21, 2014.
According to the report on this breaking international story, the Canada hit-and-run attack has a suspect in custody and two victims. Rousseau is said to have driven down two military soldiers on duty, one of which was killed and the other who remains in the hospital and is receiving treatment for serious injuries.
As provided in a statement from the nation’s Public Safety Minister Steven Blaney, Martin Rouleau was shot and killed following the violent crime and is a 25-year-old Muslim convert, also from Canada. He noted that the man was “clearly linked to terrorist ideology” and was involved in an apparent radicalized terror assault. An intense car chase ensued after Rouleau’s hit-and-run attack; the suspect was shot and killed by a police officer during the harrowing ordeal.
One of the soldiers struck by Rouleau’s vehicle on Monday later died from his injuries, while the other remains in critical condition. Rouleau was shot dead by police following a car chase, according to the AP. Medical officials rushed to assist the two soldiers, but one was pronounced dead on scene. The other is said to currently be in critical condition, but no further details about his condition have been available at this time.
Jobs n Hire News notes that at least one witness was privy to the event. The unidentified observer said that he saw the last seconds of Rouleau’s life before he was gunned down, adding that it was an incredibly tense situation.
“I heard [police] shout several times, ‘Get out of the car, get out of the car and raise your hands,'” a witness revealed to a local news station of the last moments of the police standoff with the Muslim convert in his car. “The man got out and charged towards the policewoman. Then that’s when we heard seven gunshots, then the man was on the ground.”
More information about Martin Rouleau is still coming to light, but what is known is that he was a publicly open radical who officially converted to the Islam religion back in 2013. A Royal Canadian Mounted Police spokesperson stated that the event is saddening, but he was on national authority’s warning radar. There were even concerns that the 25-year-old had recently become “radicalized.” He died instantly from the gunshot wounds in the standoff, officials confirm. As provided in a written statement,
“This individual was known to federal authorities, including our integrated national security investigations team in Montreal who, along with other authorities, were concerned that he had become radicalized.”
Prime Minister Harper also offered a formal statement on the tragic loss. He said that the Canadian people and government officials send out their thoughts and prayers to those affected by the vehicular slaughter. The criminal investigation is ongoing.
“First and foremost our thoughts and prayers are with the victims and their families; we’re closely monitoring the situation and obviously we will make available all of the resources of the federal government.”
Unfortunately, this Canada hit-and-run attack is not the first Muslim radical terrorist-related incident that has made headlines recently. Just last year in England, an Islamic extremist worked together with another radical al Qaida supporter to brutally run over and kill a London military soldier. Afterwards, they proceeded to behead the man using a sharp blade. Last May 2013, the late soldier received justice when both suspects, Michael Adebowale and Michael Adebolajo, were found guilty of the violent crime and sentenced to life imprisonment.
