According to MTV on Tuesday, there are many questions left about the Winter Soldier from the “Captain America: The Winter Soldier” film and these are questions that directors Joe and Anthony Russo are tossing around for “Captain America 3.” They are pretty much picking up from where they left off from the second film and also what could be in store for Steve Rogers moving forward with the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
Nothing of the story line is known just yet, but screenwriters Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely had recently last week turned over their first draft of “Captain America 3.” There are questions that both the Russo brothers are pondering as to the accountability of Bucky Barnes/Winter Soldier when it had come to his actions in the recently shown summer film. Also, thoughts of whether or not redemption is even possible for Bucky in the eyes of Steve Rogers. This is all remained to be seen. One of the Russo brothers, Anthony, had this to ponder:
“Is the Winter Soldier the world’s most dangerous assassin that’s ever lived or the world’s longest serving P.O.W.? Is he responsible for his actions since he was turned into the Winter Soldier, or is he innocent by reason of insanity? Where does this character live now? Is he ever going to be acceptable again to Cap in the way he once was, before he was the Winter Soldier? Those are the really complicated relationship questions and philosophical questions and emotional questions that intrigued us moving forward.”
At this point, the aforementioned line of questioning doesn’t really answer who the villains will be in this film nor does it even address the likelihood of Bucky to replace Steve Rogers as Captain America. There is a sense, however, of where the emotional heart of the movie lies which is something rather prominent in the first two films.
Though, Anthony Mackie does give his response to his mirrored counterpart in the comic books, Sam Wilson. Apparently in the “Captain America #25” comic book, the Falcon does wind up being Steve Rogers replacement as the star-spangled adorned hero.
“I don’t know. I mean, I’m excited about it. I think if it goes that way in the movies that it would take a long time, because there’s so many evolutions before that.”
It was then mentioned by one of the directors that there is a huge mix of ideas and preexisting relationships between the archrivals and comparing it to having it put all into the mix and being shaken up. Such things that are being batted around deal with Steve Roger’s political associations and the particulars of his relationship with Bucky Barnes.
“Captain America 3” is scheduled to be released come May 6, 2016.
