Cardboard Carapace is another wacky Magic: The Gathering card from Unglued. This green aura pokes fun of players who collect a particular card, offering a super benefit to one creature if you acquire enough copies of Cardboard Carapace to make its casting cost worth it.
Cardboard Carapace – 5G
Enchantment – Aura (Rare)
For each other Cardboard Carapace card you have with you, enchanted creature gets +1/+1.
Errata: This does not count any Cardboard Carapace cards in play that you control or in your graveyard, hand, or library.
Would you be willing to pay six mana to give one of your creatures +1/+1? We think not. Cardboard Carapace doesn’t even begin to look attractive until you own more than ten. Things get interesting when you have 100, or better yet 1,000.
Unfortunately, you’ll need to give your creature trample or cast Cardboard Carapace on a target with some sort of evasion if you want to win on the same turn.
Due to the nature of the card, it should come as no surprise that Cardboard Carapace is actually one of the most expensive cards in the set and is often out of stock at online retailers. That begs the question: Who’s buying them all?
Just how many copies of Cardboard Carapace do you need to own for it to be worth the six mana investment? Please share your opinion with us in the comment section.
