On Sunday night’s episode of “Catch a Contractor,” comedian Adam Carolla and his friends, private investigator Alison Bedell and her husband Skip, a licensed home-improvement contractor, are going after the worst contractors in America. Before Adam became famous for his comedy and other endeavors, he was a contractor, so it is not so much of a stretch for him. Now, the team is on the job to hunt down the crooked people who screw over innocent people, and force them to complete the jobs they left unfinished. If they cannot find these people, they will finish the job and help the family take legal action against these swindlers on this episode titled “Concrete Bungle.”
Adam and Skip went to meet with Randy & Ruby Rodriguez. Their contractor left them in a lurch, when he was supposed to build a backyard for their four kids. Instead, he left the place a war zone, where kids could not play without getting hurt or maybe worse. Because of the state they left the place, their homeowner’s insurance cancelled their policy.
Robert, the contractor was supposed to build steps, put in new concrete, a retaining wall and install grass for $6,800. Randy gave him $5,000, and had excuses for not showing up. When Skip and Adam saw the dangerous mess Robert left behind, and adding insult to injury, he was flirting with Ruby.
It took little time for Alison to find Robert. They set up the sting and Robert arrived. When he was in the house, Adam & Skip came in and confronted him. He used every excuse in the book. They gave him the ultimatum; give the money back, come back and finish the job under their supervision, or Skip and Adam will help them take him to court. He chose to return.
When Adam and Skip spoke about codes, he had no idea about the codes. This guy did just enough work to get their money, and then he never returned. Finally, Randy & Ruby confronted this scum bag, who continued to defend his lies. They put the family in a hotel until the job was completed.
They had to demolish any work that was done and finish it properly. Robert stated that Skip and Adam did not know what they were talking about, and he did better work than them, which had to be a joke.
When the family arrived home, they could not believe their beautiful yard. They even received a state-of-the-art grill. The kids could not wait to put their bathing suits on, and ran inside. Robert was brought out again to confront the family. He tried to shake hands again with Randy, but he lacked sincerity. He even criticized the work that Skip and Adam did, but fortunately were able to say goodbye to him and hopefully never see him again. Adam and Skip probably will see him down the road again.
The Rodriguez family was able to renew their homeowners’ insurance. Thanks to Adam, Skip and Alison, there is one more happy family out there as seen on this episode of “Catch a Contractor.”
