As consumers, we thrive in finding what most consider abstract. More clearly we yearn for more than the hum-drum variety, ever longing to quench the appetite of humility. With that, many companies throw the word – “reinvent” – around like a whiffle ball in the backyard of your cabinet. Swirling around like some proverbial kite, longing for permanent residence in your mouth, the “reinvented” granola called Renola that Larabar presented me with was met with pure hesitation. I delved into the Berry “granola” first. I use the aforementioned quotations because this isn’t granola in the truest sense, but it is preposterously incredible.
Consisting of blueberries, nuts, other fruits, seeds and spices, I was figuratively blown away by the pure fact that this doesn’t contain granola – it has been reinvented (see what I did there). The taste is sweet but clean and the berries combine a tart mouth-feel with a smooth nutty finish. Nothing is overwhelming yet everything is simultaneously incredible.
But wait…there’s more – the Cinnamon Nut package had me chasing the Renola dragon. Almonds, pecans and cashews fluttered delicately around the pure vanilla extract and cinnamon as if on some farm in Kansas. I’m in no way embarrassed when I state that I am now an addict for these sweet morsels of health.
Lastly came the Cocoa Coconut variety, and before I could mention that Cocoa Coconut had to of been a band from the 80’s, my tongue slapped my brain into nirvana with cocoa nibs, sunflower seeds, pumpkin seeds and toasted coconut. Each ingredient is succulent but more importantly abundant. Additionally, nothing struggles to overpower you – everything is in balance and content with a tie.
I think it imperative to also recognize that Larabar’s Renola uses non-GMO ingredients and is grain-free, gluten-free, soy-free, dairy-free and kosher. However none of those things seem to matter as these sweet snacks are a perfect indulgence into a reinvented food that works! Plus each 1.25 oz. bag can, nay, should be used as a cereal substitute.
So, it is with great pleasure I share the reinvention of a snack that most take for granted. Give Renola a shot, you may just switch to something more abstract and healthier.
Renola can be purchased at most grocery stores including Target, Kroger, Meijer, Shaws among many others.
