Cheryl Burke, the popular “Dancing With the Stars” pro, has gained some intense media scrutiny this week with her big 15 pound weight loss. The talented dancer looks great and recently showed off her new bikini body in a featured “People” magazine article, but some health critics say that she lost too much weight too quickly. However, Yahoo! News reveals this Saturday, May 31, 2014, that Burke is countering the critics with some choice words of her own, saying that she has not succumbed to Hollywood “peer pressure” and certainly not starving herself.
Following the weight loss backlash, “DWTS” aficionado Cheryl Burke finally went to the popular social networking site, Facebook, to talk more about how she shed the pounds. She notes that she’s had a very well-known struggle with her weight and gone through a difficult time because of it, so she lost 15 pounds for herself, not for Hollywood. She also added that she feels perfectly healthy — certainly not anorexic, as some comments have alleged — and made small but positive changes to lose the extra pounds.
“I’ve had a very public struggle with the press and their comments about my weight for a number of years now, but I want to make it clear that this isn’t about them,” she wrote in a post on Friday. “Yes, I have been hurt by their criticism, but I’m only human. This wasn’t some drastic change I made overnight. I’m not caving in to the pressures of Hollywood, as some of you have expressed your concern that I might be, and I’m certainly not starving myself.”
Ultimately, People adds in their coverage special, it isn’t the loss of food, but the choice of picking healthier food, that the 30-year-old “DWTS” beauty says is the source behind her fantastic body and new look. Cheryl Burke noted in her statement that she feels as if she is “thriving,” and that both her confidence and her body are reaping in the benefits from all of her hard work, exercise, and better food / portion decisions.
“I’m thriving. I’m putting healthy foods into my body and experiencing the benefits,” she wrote. “I have tried so many fad diets, I’ve wasted so much time looking for a solution when it was right in front of me all along – take care of yourself, nourish your body, surround yourself with good people – you will feel good and will shine in all that you do.”
The Facebook post to counter her weight loss critics wasn’t over yet. She wanted to remind others who may be struggling with weight loss — or receiving criticism or losing the pounds in a way that’s healthy but still being judged — to know that they are not alone, and that it’s not Hollywood, not “DWTS,” but yourself that needs to be the impetus.
“It’s not about chasing a number on the scale, and it’s not about Hollywood,” the post continued. “We will all face criticism throughout our lives, no matter where we live and what we weigh. So if you’re struggling with that, you’re not alone. Not at all.”
