Yes folks, its that time of the year again to come out and witness some superb riding skills as riders compete in the 2014 Civilian Top Gun Riding competition at the Fay Meyers Motorcycle World location in Greenwood Village, Colorado.
The dates are Friday and Saturday, September 19-20, 2014 and the address is 9700 E. Arapahoe Road, Greenwood Village, CO 80112, basically at the junction of E. Arapahoe Rd and South Dayton Street.
Friday’s activities will be the qualification runs for riders to check out a sample course and decide whether they want to enter or not. The cost for this is a $20 donation to the Wounded Warrior Project, quite the worthy charity I must say. If the rider decides to compete, then there’s an additional $30 cost the next day, Saturday.
Patterned after the professional Top Gun Cops competitions, the Civilian Top Gun Rider Competition is for civilian riders from around the country to ride their own motorcycles through a series of precision tight turns, swerves and circles without stepping a foot down or knocking a cone. Motorized and hand chairs compete on the same range, with no charge to enter.
Saturday is the day for the actual competitions:
There’s several competition categories based on motorcycle type: Cruiser/Bagger, Sport Bike, Wheelchair.
Cruiser/Bagger: Riding competitions at slow speeds require precision techniques and extreme balance skills to maneuver through tight turns, small circles and demanding weave patterns. The exercises reflected a rider’s ability to control a large motorcycle, turn in very close quarters, and maintain balance in spite of quick turning maneuvers. First prize is $1000.
Sport Bike: The difference in turning capacity and the lighter weight of sport bikes makes them ideal for quick acceleration, sharp turning and critical stop maneuvers. Instead of the tight turns linked together, you will see quick starts and stops, wider turns at higher speeds. First prize is $1000.
Wheelchair: The wheelchair competition challenges the rider to navigate a precision course with tight turns without reversing the chair to correct a maneuver. Cash prizes to contestants who finish.
This event will provide food trucks for eats and merchants/vendors will display their wares.
