Two other appointments are made as well for Box Manager and Technical Director
Over the past season or so if you ran into any problems with tickets at Cleveland Public Theatre, James Kosmatka was the go to guy to fix the situation. It is because of this skill set and passion for learning that Cleveland Public Theatre has elevated him to the position of Assistant General Manager. James has the knack for putting bits of information together in order to develop an expert knowledge base (this was helpful this year when he qualified as a contestant on Jeopardy).
James position will be to assist Denis Griesmer, the General Manager of Cleveland Public Theatre in the day to day management of the theatre.
“When I began working as a bartender and house manager in 2008, I said to Denis Griesmer, “You need an assistant and it should be me.” And here I am. One of the most important things I’ve learned from the CPT staff is how to constantly strive for incremental improvement. Improving an organization in little bits and pieces will, over time, have just as great an effect as the major leaps forward.”
Assistant General Manager
James joined the Cleveland Public Theatre staff in 2011, but has been associated with CPT since he served as a marketing intern in 2006. At CPT, James has worked as a sound designer, director, assistant director and stage manager and productions have included The Santaland Diaries, Osama the Hero and poor little lulu and Big Box productions including Seppuku, InCogNegro and The Beetlebug and the Bad Worm. Prior to CPT, James worked as an office manager at Cleveland State University and as a freelance theatre artist with such companies as The Beck Center for the Arts, The Cleveland Play House and The University of Rochester International Theatre Program. He is an alumnus of Cleveland State University, where he co-created the hit adaptation Night of the Living Dead.
Box Office Manager
Taking over in James’s role will be Natividad Uehara who is a luminous presence in the office. She is full of energy and the staff welcomes her in this new position.
“These last few weeks of my life (my first few as the Box Office Manager here at CPT), have been incredible! I have never been so productive, challenged, and encouraged in all my years of work in this industry till now. The diversity of my coworkers, the patrons and this beautiful city are what attracted me to apply and eventually accept this position. Those things have surely made me want to settle into Cleveland as well. Having worked in box offices at many different theatres since 2007, this position has been the first full time management role I have had with that being said, it has been a new learning experience for me so far, and an exciting one! I look forward to the special events like Pandemonium, the official season start in October, and to getting to know all of the wonderful patrons who make this job worthwhile. I have had such a warm welcome and thank all of you for giving me the opportunity to experience what CPT and Cleveland have to offer.”
Box Office Manager
Nati joined the Cleveland Public Theatre staff at the start of the 14/15 season and has been involved with theatre since the age of 13. She most recently has worked as Box Office staff for Creede Repertory Theatre in Colorado, Tipping Point Theatre in Metro Detroit and at her alma mater, Alma College Heritage Center for the Performing Arts in northern Michigan. Nati has worked as a professional freelance theatre artist for many theatre companies in the southeast Michigan area as a Box Office Manager, Stage Manager, House Manager, backstage crew, administrator and as a Stage Director since graduating from Alma with her BA in Theatre in 2011. She has been nominated for a Wilde Award for Best Ensemble work and was the winner of the 2012 BoxFest Detroit Grant, which enabled her to attend an apprenticeship program with One Year Lease Theatre Company in Greece during the summer of 2013. Nati is proud of her roots, being born and raised in Miami, Florida which has given her a love of different cultures and places.
Michael Cunningham joins the CPT staff as Technical Director
Michael is a New York City native and recently graduated from Oberlin College. Mr. Cunningham joins the CPT production team as Technical Director bringing boundless energy, experience and knowledge which he will need as he tackles his first project, “Pandemonium 2014.”
“I am truly thrilled to be joining the staff of CPT. Already in high-gear preparations for Pandemonium, I’m excited to be working with CPT’s talented and dedicated team on such challenging and rewarding projects. As a young theater professional, I can’t think of a livelier and more dynamic theater company so deeply committed to its mission. CPT offers remarkable opportunities to push the art form forward in conjunction with a deep engagement with the neighboring community. It is truly an honor to be the technical director for CPT and contribute to transformative programming and innovative theatrical offerings.”
Michael joined Cleveland Public Theatre at the beginning of the 2014/15 season. He studied technical design/production and computer science at Oberlin College, where he worked as a carpenter and was Student Technical Director for the experimental theater facility, and also studied in the design studio at NYU Tisch. Michael has worked with Oberlin High School, Marymount School of New York, Planet Connections Theatre Festivity, The Oberlin Summer Theater Festival, Playwrights Horizons Theater School, NYU’s Experimental Theatre Wing, NYU StageWorks, Atlantic Theater Company, and Classical Theatre of Harlem in a wide range of technical capacities.
