Cody Calafiore knew he’d have to work to get a few swing votes on Wednesday’s “Big Brother” finale, but he was still stunned by one former “BB” bestie who didn’t vote for him to win the $500,000 grand prize. On Thursday, the 23-year-old sales account executive told Zap 2 It he was a bit shocked by the 7-2 vote in favor of Derrick Levasseur, and most especially by the lack of a vote from one player in particular.
“I knew it was going to be very difficult for me to beat him because of how bitter some of the jury members could have been, but I was expecting it to be a lot closer,” he said. “But some of the votes I thought were going to go my way didn’t.” At the top of his list of surprises was Christie Brecht, his former BFF and snuggle partner in the “Big Brother” house. After announcing that she was not a bitter jury member, Brecht gave her vote to Levasseur.
“I really was shocked that Christine didn’t vote my way,” Calafiore revealed. “That was a big shock to me.” While he acknowledged that his cozy relationship with the married “Big Brother” player didn’t exactly cross the line, he now seems to regret the negative light it out on their friendship.
“I never felt like we took it crazy over the line,” he said. “Maybe the head rubs would make her husband a little upset — I wish I would have respected that a little bit more, but we had a really good friendship. I saw her husband afterward and he didn’t seem angry, didn’t seem bitter. Christine wouldn’t really look my way, which was a little tough. But he didn’t seem too bitter towards me, he handled it very maturely and after all the stories she told me about him, I didn’t expect him to handle it any other way.”
Calafiore also seems to think the damage to his once-close friendship with the Tucson barista could be permanent. He told Big Brother Network that he gave Christine’s husband, Tim, a big hug after the finale, but things weren’t as comfortable with Christine. “I feel like that put a huge wedge in our relationship and probably a huge wedge outside of the house which is very unfortunate,” he said.
Still, it looks like there are no hard feelings as far as Christine’s husband is concerned. While he previously revealed that he planned to put the kibosh on his wife’s friendship with Calafiore when he met him in person, after the finale, Timothy Brecht tweeted, “Oh by the way, I walked up to Cody, we hugged, and I said ‘20,000 people told me to do this’ and petted his hair.”
“Big Brother” returns for a new season next summer on CBS.
