Jerry Palm of CBS Sports released his College football playoff projections on Sunday, and they don’t make any sense at all. Not only does Jerry Palm have two SEC teams in the in the playoff projections, he still has the Alabama Crimson Tide on the top line.
Even if Palm is projecting what may happen down the road, thinking Alabama is ready to run the table is quite outlandish. That means Jerry Palm believes Alabama could lose another game and still make the playoffs. We have seen a two loss LSU team make the BCS championship game before, so anything is possible when it comes to the college football postseason.
1. Ole Miss Rebels: The Ole Miss Rebels had a good two weeks, but for them to be the No.1 team seems a little bit premature. Although the Rebels have a dominant defense, their offense hasn’t been the most prolific unit in the world.
2. Florida State Seminoles: Has Florida State been the most disrespected reigning champion in the history of college football? The Seminoles have not lost a game in 22 tries, yet, both polls have dropped Florida State for the second time this season. First, the coaches poll jumped Alabama ahead of the Seminoles a couple weeks ago. Maybe Florida State is a victim of last year’s success.
3. Alabama Crimson Tide: Alabama’s offense has look putrid the past two weeks, but they escaped one of those with a win over Arkansas. The Tide still have to host Mississippi State and Auburn before the end of the season. According to Sportsline.com, Alabama doesn’t have a Top 25 win.
4. Michigan State Spartans: The Spartans only loss came to Oregon and they should be heavy favorites until the Ohio State game. The winner of that game will likely play in the Big 10 championship game.
Teams on the Bubble
Mississippi State Bulldogs are the consensus No.1 team in both polls, yet they aren’t getting the respect from Jerry Palm. Dak Prescott is a difference maker at quarterback, so he’ll have a say about where the Bulldogs end up. If they remain undefeated, it’s a done deal to be in the playoffs.
Notre Dame Fighting Irish are in the Top Five and they face Florida State on Saturday. The Irish are also are a lock to make the playoffs if they win out. It would be impossible to keep Notre Dame out of the college football playoffs.
Baylor Bears are just getting into the toughest portion of their schedule. After scoring 24 straight points to shock TCU, Baylor has the confidence to win every game. They also know they can fall behind double digits.
