Jan Morgan, a popular conservative writer who owns the Gun Cave Indoor Shooting Range in Hot Springs, Arkansas, has declared her business a “Muslim-Free Zone,” Truth Revolt reported Monday. Citing concerns over the safety of her customers who buy, rent and shoot firearms at her business, Morgan said she has banned Muslims from her business.
“This is not a coffee and donut shop,” she wrote, explaining that she runs a live-fire indoor shooting range. Customers, she added, shoot firearms in close proximity to each other, so, she explained, “my patrons depend on me and my discretion regarding who I allow to shoot beside them.”
“One mistake in judgement on my part could cost innocent people their lives,” she wrote. She listed ten reasons she doesn’t want Muslims in her range, some of which come from her own reading of the Koran and some which are the result of recent events like the Oklahoma woman recently beheaded by a former Muslim co-worker. Morgan also cited the Boston marathon bombing, the Ft. Hood mass shooting, and the Sept. 11 terror attack.
Additionally, Morgan said she has been the target of death threats by Muslims responding to things she has written about the Koran. “Why,” she asked, “would I want to rent or sell a gun and hand ammunition to someone who aligns himself with a religion that commands him to kill me?”
“This is more than enough loss of life on my home soil at the hands of muslims to substantiate my position that muslims can and may follow the directives in their Koran and kill here at home,” she wrote. In one case, she said, customers were unnerved when two Muslims recently entered her business, wanting to rent and shoot guns. Neither spoke very little English, had “Allah Akhbar” ring tones and one had no proof of U.S. citizenship. According to Morgan, “no one” entered the range while they were there.
Morgan is not only concerned about her own safety, but the safety of her customers, especially given that Muslims who support ISIS, al-Qaeda and Hamas “are threatening to kill innocent Americans.” In her view, she not only has a right, but a responsibility to provide a safe environment for her customers.
“I can and have turned people away if I sense they are under the influence of alcohol or mind-altering drugs,” she said. “I can and have turned people away if I sense an issue with their mental state.”
Moreover, she said, the ATF told her that she does not have to sell a firearm to anyone if she senses something is wrong. And, she added, she has exercised that discretion in the past.
Morgan went on to say she does not believe all Muslims are terrorists. But, she added, “almost all terrorists in the world right now” are Muslims.
Reaction has been mostly positive, she told Examiner Monday evening. When asked, Morgan said she has received calls from “virtually every state in the country, including New York and California, which,” she added, “was surprising.” All but one of the calls she received were positive, she added.
Morgan said she received “only one call from a man who cussed me out and called me all kinds of vile names.” Truth Revolt said a blogger who wrote under the name “Caleb” had strong words for Morgan, calling her a “no talent a*s-clown; a gun bunny in her 40s with no real shooting, writing, or commentary skills trying a desperate stunt to get attention.” Morgan, Truth Revolt noted, is an Associated Press Award winning investigative journalist, and a nationally-recognized speaker and contributor to sites like the Daily Caller. She is also an NRA Certified Firearms Instructor, NRA Certified Range Safety Officer, state-certified concealed carry instructor and the founder of a national firearms training program for women. Yehuda Remer concluded by saying Morgan was “selected as the Voice of the Conservative Vote by the Texas GOP.”
