Thursday, June 26, 2014-Saturday, June 28, 2014, Columbus Park Golf Course was the site of Chicago Park District’s, 99th Cook County Amateur golf tournament. (The qualifying round was on Wednesday, June 25.) For the last, three days, humidity levels were higher than 50% due to intermittent rain. This tournament consisted of three rounds. Participants followed match play rules. The final contestants completed their rounds at approximately 3:30 pm on Saturday.
Park officials declared Cully Johnston as the champion. (Kyle Donovan was the runner-up.) Cully contended with ground under repair and/or abnormal ground conditions on holes three, five and six. The fifth hole’s fairway was the worst.
The qualifying round on Wednesday cost entrants $50 per player. For each subsequent day (Thursday, Friday and Saturday), entrants paid normal green fees. Normal green fees are $17-weekdays and $19-weekends for those without a Player’s Advantage Card. For those with a Player’s Advantage Card, the fees are $12-weekdays and $14-weekends.
