The long awaited fundraiser, ‘Corky’s Corner’, benefiting the Rodolfo ‘Corky’ Gonzales Branch of the Denver Public Library (720-861-1111) located at 10 W. Colfax Ave. (West Colfax and Irving St.), has the VIP meet and greet SOLD OUT but tickets remain for the screening of the legendary 1953 bout between Gonzales and Gene Smith airing from 7-9 p.m. at the SIE FILM CENTER located at 2510 East Colfax Ave. in Denver tomorrow (Wednesday) night, June 18th.
The suggested Rodolfo ‘Corky’ Gonzales Branch of the Denver Public Library had become a political football of sorts, many considering Gonzales a ‘too polarizing’ figure (because of his Chicano rights pursuits) to have a Denver Public Library named in his honor.
The impact of Gonzales’ activist pursuits have been felt throughout the country and having this library built is a rightful testament to Rodolfo ‘Corky’ Gonzales, his family and friends along with those who continue to demand equal rights for all.
Tickets are priced at $20 per person with a portion of the proceeds used to fund a sculpture of Gonzales.
