September 24, 2014: Happy Libra New Moon! Libra is often said to be the astrological sign of relationships and it’s for sure that this year has been about rethinking how you act in relationships, as well as about redefining the relationships that define your life. But, Libra is also about finding a balance and coming to understand the power of the give and take in complementary relationships.
To understand the power that can be generated in complementary relationships, consider Sir Isaac Newton’s third law of physics. ” To every action there is always opposed an equal reaction.” This is the law that makes jet planes fly and rocket’s get off the ground. It is also the law that powers complementary relationships. It is because “every action has an equal and opposite reaction” that things move up and move on. And competition, overt or not, exists in every complementary pair.
Think John Lennon and Paul McCartney… they both were creative, talented musicians… but it was not friendship or similarities that was the driving force of the Beatles.. it was the friction, competition and balance of power between these two that drove their creative innovation… and it was a power grab and politics that drove them apart. (“The Power of Two”)
Certainly there are innovative and creative individuals who seemed to be “lone wolfs”. But consider the old saying: “behind every good man is a good woman”? (or some variation on that theme). Could it be that the “lone wolf” paradigm of creative innovation simply ignores the existence of a hidden pairing.
On this day when the light of Libra is shining bright take time to read about the relationship between John and Paul: “The Power of Two” by Joshua Wolf Shenk, then think about how you are also drawn to others that share similar interests, but really don’t think, feel or behave like you.
Opposites attract and complement… they look at life from different perspectives. Pay attention to these sorts of interactions because they are the ones that can get your rocket off the ground. Just keep in mind that complementary relationships do have a down side… and the same qualities you were drawn to, also have the potential to be the source of power plays, contention or discord.
The Pentacle – The ancients envisioned their world in two halves – masculine and feminine. Their gods and goddesses worked to keep a balance of power. Yin and Yang. When male and female were balanced, there was harmony in the world. When they were unbalanced there was chaos. ~ Dan Brown, The Da Vinci Code
