Viceroy Mercado: “It’s in our nature to want to be other than we are. It’s what makes humanity great. We are creatures of incredible curiosity. We envy the flight of birds, and we build wings. Born earthbound, we reach for the stars. Never be ashamed of trying to be better than what you are, and cherish the moments you get to spend in a place like this. You can be anything you want here. You’re brave. You’re strong. You’re confident. Every eye here is fix upon you.”

If you are confused about the Irzu flashbacks, raise your hand. Nothing is ever really explained, and so watching it feels like trying to solve a puzzle with only some of the pieces. Okay, Irzu is on a ship with Mordecai, who Irisa runs into in present day, and they are taking it over. The question remains, why is this being shown? There has to be a point to all of this, but the writers haven’t made it yet. There’s not a time stamp on any of this, and Mordecai, for some reason, doesn’t remember any of it. Do you have any theories?
Alright Deirdre (aka radio girl) betraying Christie was bound to happen. As soon as she started to cozy up to Christie, red flags went up. This episode just shows how twisted Deirdre is. The scene where she opens up to Christie about reinventing yourself and about what happened to her seems like a genuine friendship moment, like alright, maybe she won’t betray Christie. Nope, all Deirdre wants is Alak, and she reinvents Christie to get it done. What needs to happen is Christie needs to slap her. This could be a chance for Christie to show what she has learned from pretending to be a Castithan.
Speaking of Christie, her storyline is just fantastic. She open up and say why she enjoys dressing up like she does. These are great characterization moments, and Christie even puts into words how she feels while at the Tarr household. However, the best thing is Mercado’s speech to Christie, quoted above. There are no words. It’s just fantastic. That being said, it’s unclear how much more can be done with Christie and Mercado hanging out at the club together. If this thing starts to get romantic, it will get awkward and gross real fast. What was your favorite moment from this storyline?
There is a case of the week, but Nolan isn’t the main one investigating. It’s not the most interesting case in the world, but it’s a nice change up. Datak heads up an investigation into the murder of Jalina. The focus isn’t so much on the crime solving, but more so on the personal level. Datak goes on and on about how much Jalina meant to him. It’s a little weird hearing him talk about how long he’s known her considering the episode started with the two of them having sex. Still, it’s rare that this emotional of a side to Datak is shown.
What did you think of the episode? Are you glad that Nolan finally knows about Irisa? Is anyone else hoping Christie punches, slaps, poisons Deirdre? Leave me your thoughts in a comment below.
