FPS legends Bungie look to smash conventional genre restrictions with the upcoming FPS/MMO/Loot grab mashup, Destiny, and the Playstation Youtube channel showed some of the PS4 exclusive content coming on September 9. Examiner takes you in depth to scope out these unique armors, weapons, and excursions you can look forward to in Destiny.
Monte Carlo Exotic Auto Rifle – Hip fire bonus, melee monster
The first thing most will notice about the Monte Carlo is the distinct white paint job, just kidding, look at the blade on that thing! The Monte Carlo has a few perks that look to make it a close range auto rifle, for those that like to charge in to the fight and make their presence known in a few ways.
Playstation Blog had this to say,
The Monte Carlo, an exotic assault rifle, is a handcrafted showpiece with a sleek look that masks the cruel reality of its function — the efficient elegant delivery of war against any who would tarnish its legacy. Upgrades increase the weapon’s “hip fire” effectiveness and boost melee cool down, providing a firm grounding for close range domination.
- Hip Fire – This weapon has bonus accuracy while firing from the hip
- Monte Carlo Method – Dealing damage with this weapon reduces your melee cooldown
Time will tell if the Monte Carlo will deliver the decisive blow via the gigantic blade, or if our Guardians are meant to keep that blade for more ceremonious circumstances.
Hawkmoon – Exotic Hand Cannon shows off beautiful detail, deadly perks
The Hawkmoon looks as beautiful as it does deadly, with perks that grant the weapon superior bonus damage.
Playstation Blog described the weapon quite well,
The Hawkmoon, an exotic hand cannon, is a true gunslinger’s weapon — a smooth sidearm that makes every bullet count with intricate “hawk feather” etchings carved into the weapon’s silvered barrel. Damage boosts increase the combat effectiveness, making it a formidable weapon.
- Luck in the Chamber – One random bullet in the magazine causes considerable bonus damage
- Holding Aces – Two more random bullets in your magazine deal considerable damage
Seeing as most Hand Cannons in Destiny’s Alpha and Beta looked to hold 3-6 bullets on average, this weapon seems to have a great chance to destroy all enemies in the wielder’s path.
‘Dust Palace’ – Playstation Exclusive Strike Mission against Cabal extraction team
Straight from the Playstation Blog: “An exclusive three-player cooperative Strike that can be played with friends or match made. You’ll track a Cabal extraction team through the husks of an ancient human skyscraper, the Dust Palace, buried in the shifting dunes of Mars and face a new enemy, the Psion Flayers.”
Playstation Exclusive Crucible Mission – ‘Exodus Blue’
According to the Playstation Blog, Exodus Blue “pairs perfectly with Control and Skirmish game modes.”
Described as a mid-size map, Exodus Blue takes place on a “long-dead” vessel, with Guardians fighting for control and command on the downed ship on Earth’s surface.
Argus Rare Hunter Gear – See, don’t be seen
The Argus Hunter class gear set appears to throw in a camouflaged hood, the Hunter’s class specific and unique identifier, that flows down the back with distinctly leaf based patterns and a green scheme. While no info is divulged as to the specs or perks of each of the pieces, being Rare level ensures that players will be able to unlock some great abilities to aid in their light bringing efforts.
Manifold Rare Warlock Set – clean, crisp, and rugged.
The Manifold set of rare gear for the Warlock class has a distinctively clean look, with edges and great contrast between the dark coat underneath white and blue accent armor pieces, and seems to have some arcane history behind it’s construction. To quote Playstation Blog’s succinct description,
Armor that was built to help Warlocks survive the secret realms of the Vex.
Vanir Rare Titan Gear Set – Battle tested, Guardian approved
The Vanir Rare Titan Gear gives off a slightly Halo vibe, as is to be somewhat expected when working with intergalactic super-jumping melee machines, but pulls off a look of mobility and low encumbrance.
Playstation Blog’s quick snippet describes the Vanir as “a battle-tested armor set forged to protect Titans against the heavy firepower of the Cabal.”
While the red on black look goes a long way to intimidate some of those lower level foes, only time will tell if the Cabal truly fear a guardian in this rare set.
‘Destiny’ White PS4 bundle – So fresh, so clean
True to form, if a platform comes out in White, everyone wants black, and vice versa. In Sony’s first big bundle release since launch, the white PS4 sure does look sleek. Obvious concerns about fingerprints and dirt are probably subsided by wiping the drool from the corner of the mouthal region after setting sights on this thing.
‘Destiny’ Playstation exclusive content to remain that way until at least Fall 2015
The bad news with exclusives is they are just that; exclusive. The good news for Xbox One and Xbox 360 owners is that the content will eventually make it’s way to other platforms, although not until Fall of 2015.
