Disney fans in the New York City area can look forward to a special event this fall, when Disney experts and historians take center stage at the World’s Fair Marina Restaurant in Flushing, Queens. “The Unofficial Guide’s Disney Dish with Jim Hill,” a podcast exploring little-known stories and history of The Walt Disney Company, will be recorded with a live audience for the first time, and tickets are on sale now.
Celebrating the fiftieth anniversary of the 1964-65 World’s Fair, which took place just steps away in Flushing Meadows-Corona Park, the centerpiece of the conversation will be the classic Walt Disney attractions which debuted at this event.
The podcast panel, which includes journalist Jim Hill and Disney travel experts Len Testa and Mike Newell, will discuss Walt Disney and his association with the World’s Fair, including the development of key attractions such as “it’s a small world,” before engaging the audience in a Q & A session. The event offers a unique opportunity for area Disney enthusiasts to not just hear first-hand about great moments in Disney history, but also to converse with experts in Disney travel and meet other fans in the community.
Participants will also enjoy a full Italian buffet from the World’s Fair Marina Restaurant, and receive a special souvenir gift. The event runs from 11 AM – 2 PM on Sunday, October 26th, 2014.
The Unofficial Guide’s Disney Dish with Jim Hill made its podcast debut in 2011, with a series of conversations between Hill and Testa. Hill, who has been writing about the entertainment industry at large and Disney in particular for more than thirty years, is widely known in the Disney fan community for his insider access and behind-the-scenes stories, including conversations with Imagineers, animators, and others who worked directly with Walt Disney. He writes for many outlets, including the Huffington Post, and from his own site, JimHillMedia.com. Working with Testa, co-author of The Unofficial Guide to Walt Disney World and founder of TouringPlans.com, Hill has recorded more than sixty episodes of Disney Dish. For this event, they’ll be joined by Mike Newell, who works with Testa on another Disney travel podcast, WDW Today.
