Rescue Me magazine, an inspiring and uplifting publication dedicated to animal adoption and rescue, will be hosting it’s first 5K fun run at Woodbridge Park in Irvine on November 8, 2014. The inaugural Rescue Me 5K-9 is a dog-friendly fun run and walk to help raise money and awareness for animals in need. Both human and canines are welcomed to participate, which begins and ends at the Mike Ward Community Park. Participants are then invited to enjoy a dog-friendly vendor fair and pet adoption event.
Not only will participants get to share their race day experience with other pet lovers and their dogs, they will be benefiting homeless animals in the Orange County area, with a portion of the proceeds going to local area animal welfare rescues and shelters.
“At Rescue Me, we have a shared commitment to help the plight of sheltered animals and the life-threatening situations they are put in due to pet overpopulation,” says Lisa MacDonald, marketing director for Rescue Me. “And it’s for this reason that we’re excited to host the Rescue Me 5K-9. We look forward to partnering with a whole community of pet lovers who are active – physically, socially and within their communities.”
The Rescue Me 5K-9 encourages people and their dogs to come out and enjoy a scenic out-and-back run or walk on the beautiful San Diego Creek trail in Irvine starting at 8 a.m. at Mike Ward Community Park at Woodbridge located at 20 Lake Road, Irvine, CA 92604.
The Rescue Me 5K-9 event includes:
• Family- and dog-friendly 5K run/walk
• Puppy Dash for kids 8 and under (starting at 9:30 a.m.)
• Finisher medals for human participants
• Finisher bandanas for canine participants
• Vendor fair (with active lifestyle and animal welfare booths)
• Pet adoption opportunities
After crossing the finish line, racers and their canine competitors are invited to join the festivities at the Rescue Me 5K-9 Dog-Friendly Vendor Fair. The event features activities for all ages, including:
• Pet adoption event
• Food trucks
• Face painting
• And more!
Registrants can check-in early on Friday, November 7 from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Sports Authority located at 13702 Jamboree Rd., Market Place 2, Irvine, CA 92602. Race day packet pick-up starts on the day of the race at 6:30 a.m. at Mike Ward Community Park at Woodbridge.
“In Orange County alone, there are thousands of displaced pets waiting for loving homes,” MacDonald stresses. “Rescue Me 5K-9 gives us the opportunity to show our support for these wonderful animals and help benefit their cause. We encourage everyone to come out to the Rescue Me 5K-9 and bring your family, friends and your favorite pooch. Then stay and have fun at the dog-friendly vendor fair. You never know – you may just meet your future canine running partner!”
