Dr. Mehmet Oz revealed how to avoid GMOs (genetically modified organisms) and discussed whether foods made from GMOs should be labeled on the June 19 episode of the Dr. Oz Show. **This episode originally aired Feb. 13.
Dr. Oz is astonished that the U.S. Food and Drug Administration doesn’t require food manufacturers to label foods made from GMOs, like they do in Australia, France and Japan.
GMOs Linked to Cancer, Accelerated Aging and Birth Defects
GMOs are genetically engineered vegetables, fruits and seeds that have been bred to be more nutritious, more resistant to insects, and cheaper to produce. While GMOs have so far been deemed safe, there have been no studies tracking the long-term health risks of consuming GMOs.
However, researchers have linked genetically modified foods to cancer, birth defects, accelerated aging, disruptions in the endocrine system, infertility, and resistance to antibiotics. Sadly, the use of pesticides has soared since the introduction of GMOs into our food crops. This is because weeds became resistant to the original pesticides used in farming, so heavier spraying is required on GMOs, which are scientifically engineered foods.
Dr. Oz’s guest was Scott Faber, vice president of the Environmental Working Group in Washington, D.C. Faber said the food industry wants GMO foods labeled as “natural” when these foods were actually bio-engineered in a lab. The FDA agrees with Faber, saying genetically modified foods are not “natural.”
While some food companies have voluntarily started labeling their GMO foods, others are fighting furiously to prevent mandatory labeling, including food giants like Ben & Jerry’s. Critics say it’s because if foods containing GMOs were labeled as such, the public would likely like stop buying them.
Dr. Oz said the best way to avoid GMO-containing foods is to buy organic. Today, about 85% of corn, soybeans, sugar beets and canola are grown from GMO seeds, so avoid these foods if you don’t want to consume genetically modified organisms. - Vegetable sushi rolls. Cut a cucumber lengthwise and layer it with chopped vegetables and hummus.
- Stuffed mushrooms. Fill mushroom cap with a mixture of tomatoes, olive oil, cilantro, garlic, onions, salt and pepper. Bake in oven for about 20 minutes at 350 degrees.
- Vegetables with Greek yogurt dip. Mix yogurt with spices like parsley, cilantro, salt and pepper and enjoy with fresh vegetables.

Dr. Oz said rosehip oil is a super-cheap way to treat wrinkles, eczema, and psoriasis. Rosehip seed oil is rich in essential fatty acids and antioxidants (including anti-aging powerhouse vitamin A) and has been shown to minimize dark spots, scars, and fine lines.
You can apply it directly on your skin after a shower or add one to two drops to your moisturizer to boost its anti-aging effects.
