Detroit’s Summer seems to be quickly coming to an end as the chilly weather approaches. During this season of sunshine and warm weather there have been many outdoor events held locally and one of those events was The Woodward Dream Cruise; which took place on the 16th of August.
“The Woodward Dream Cruise is the world’s largest one-day celebration of classic car culture that attracts over 1 million visitors, and more than 40,000 muscle cars, street rods, custom, collector and special interest vehicles.” – read more http://www.woodwarddreamcruise.com/?page_id=63
This year was the 19th anniversary of The Woodward Dream Cruise, but the official flyer states 20 years. This popular event features classic cars that cruise through nine host communities. Those communities include the following;
Berkley, Birmingham, Bloomfield Hills, Bloomfield Township, Ferndale, Huntington Woods, Pleasant Ridge, Pontiac and Royal Oak, in Southeast Michigan.
The annual event was first held 1995 and it takes place each year on the third Saturday in August. The traditional route covers 16-miles of Woodward Avenue. and over the years it has become what has been reported to be the world’s largest one-day automotive event.
Many Detroiters look forward to the event each year because they get to enjoy the classic cars and it is free to the public. In fact there are no fees to watch from the sidelines or to participate in the cruise. This local events popularity has come to attracts people worldwide and many travel to Metro Detroit to participate.
“About one million people attend this event each year. It’s all about cars, cruisin, showing off, partying, hanging out, entertainment, people watching and being seen, and more cars.”- read more http://www.madmanmike.com/woodward_dream_cruise.html
Although anyone can participate by driving in the cruise, it is important to know that the two right lanes nearest to the curb are restricted to classic cars.
Detroiter Darryl Motley, who participated in the event this year, was kind enough to share some of his photographs. Please click on the link to watch the featured video/slideshow.
