Friskies brand knows how popular cat videos are worldwide. The company established “The Friskies” which can be equated to the Oscars of the cat video awards. Four of the nation’s most loveable Internet cats were recently announced as winners in the 2014 event. The grand prize winning video was “Dumpster Kitty” starring Marmalade and Cole.
In this award-winning video, Marmalade puts on a disappearing act for Cole. Mesmerized, Cole is left wondering where his feline friend goes. Cole and Marmalade are officially Internet cat video royalty now and have taken home $25,000.
YouTube celebrities The Fine Bros. and category captains Grace Helbig, Zach King, Will Braden and Jesse Wellens honored the 12 finalists and presented awards to the four category winners. Friskies awarded each category winner with a $5,000 cash prize, a golden catuette and bragging rights as one of the best Internet cat videos of the year.
The nice thing about the awards is that for every vote for a finalist video between August 11, 2014 and September 8, 2014, one can of Friskies wet cat food was donated to a shelter partner to recognize the hard work cat shelter organizations do to ensure cats find forever homes. Friskies partnered with 10 cat shelter organizations nationwide and awarded those partners 250,000 total cans of Friskies wet cat food. In addition, with direction from the category captains, Friskies donated a total of $23,500 to shelter partners.
Whitney Evans, Friskies assistant brand manager, had this to say about the 2014 event in the company’s recent press release:
“This year’s ‘The Friskies’ was one of the best yet. Some videos were hilarious, some were adorable and some were absolutely outrageous. We were blown away with the amount of fan support and votes each video received. Without a doubt, the videos combined with the countless votes of passionate fans made for a fierce but amazing competition.”
