The “Dancing with the Stars” fall 2014 season continues Sept. 22 on ABC with #myjammonday, an evening devoted to performances set to the celebrity contestants’ favorite songs. With a single week of the reality dance competition in the books, odds posted to Bovada Sportsbook on Sept. 20 maintain the same preseason favorite, but feature a lot of other shifts in the order.
On the heels of a crispy-perfect week one jive that earned all nines from judges Carrie Ann Inaba, Len Goodman, Julianne Hough, and Bruno Tonioli, “The Fresh Prince of Bel Air” alum Alfonso Ribeiro is favored to take the season 19 trophy with 3/2 odds. Ranked second with 3/1 odds of her own is “Duck Dynasty” star Sadie Robertson. The 17-year old teen and pro partner Mark Ballas “gobsmacked” Tonioli with their precise week one cha cha, and placed just two points behind Ribeiro and pro Witney Carson on the judges’ leader board.
In the three-spot with 7/1 odds is YouTube sensation Bethany Mota, who opened her show tenure with a “Shake it Off” jive alongside five-time “DWTS” champ Derek Hough. Actress Lea Thompson, the ex-ballerina who starred as Lorraine McFly in the “Back to the Future” trilogy, is ranked fourth with 15/2 odds. She and partner Artem Chigvintsev brought class and elegance to the ballroom with their well-received debut night foxtrot.
Ranked fifth with 8/1 odds is “Pretty Little Liars” star Janel Parrish, who glittered like a mirror ball during her opening jive with Val Chmerkovskiy. The final contestant who began his show tenure with a jive, “Mean Girls” actor and master facial expressionist Jonathan Bennett, follows with a 10/1 shot at victory with pro partner Allison Holker.
A pair of celebrity guys who surprised the panelists with solid week one foxtrots are tied for seventh place with 15/1 odds each. Included are mixed martial artist Randy Couture, who showed his much softer side on the arm of Karina Smirnoff, and Tavis Smiley, who successfully shed his stiff, business-like demeanor to dance with Sharna Burgess.
With 25/1 odds, “General Hospital” star and former underwear model Antonio Sabato Jr. is ranked ninth. Sabato and pro partner Cheryl Burke opened the premiere with a generally well-received cha cha cha. One of week one’s most amusing surprises follows with a 33/1 shot at winning the season. Comedian Tommy Chong and Peta Murgatroyd nearly brought the ballroom down with their shockingly sexy cha cha cha.
Finally, the week two “DWTS” odds feature a pair of celebs tied for long-shot status with identical 100/1 odds. They include NASCAR driver Michael Waltrip, who Tonioli likened to a “golf cart” trying to chase down his “Ferrari” partner, Emma Slater, and bottom two survivor Betsey Johnson. The eccentric fashion designer and pro partner Tony Dovolani earned the lowest judges’ score after a prop malfunction marred their live performance.
