Tonight all the competitors and judges all danced to their favorite tunes. The opening featured the entire cast dancing to a compilation of the judges’ four favorite songs.
First to dance was Randy and Karina in a USO-themed Cha-cha. Randy gives a decent performance but could benefit from loosening up a bit. The judges gave him a 28/40.
It looks like Janel and Val will be giving everyone else a run for their money. Their Foxtrot was so much fun and Janel has really cleaned up her arms and her footwork was solid despite not being entirely grounded. This performance landed a well-deserved 34/40.
Lea and Artem’s Jive was pretty terrific. Lea’s understanding of movement and how to coordinate the opposing use of arms and legs is very apparent. She and Artem came away with 35/40.
A second-week Samba for Michael and Emma had a few too many hip rolls for yours truly. Michael is nothing if not enthusiastic (and likely dancing with a bikini-clad Emma helped). The judges gave them 24/40.
Tavis and Sharna brought some disco to their Cha-cha. Tavis has a good sense of rhythm although his busy week was showing a bit. In addition to rehearsing with Sharna, Tavis was attending speaking engagements and book signings.
Alfonso and Witney got “jiggy” with the Samba and absolutely killed it. Alfonso is so smooth with such an amazing sense of movement and the tempo of the music. The audience was more enthusiastic than the judges who awarded 32/40.
Bethany-who is dealing with an ankle injury-danced the Foxtrot with Derek. Derek’s choreography was visually interesting and Bethany was quite fluid. However, you could tell that she was favoring that ankle at times. She showed untold bravery balancing on that bass! The judges’ score was 33/40.
Betsey with partner Tony really improved upon last week’s performance. The 72-year-old designer toned down her appearance to present a lovely, graceful woman on the stage tonight. Her performance earned 28/40.
Antonio and Cheryl’s Rumba was pretty much the classic “pro dance around the guy.” Antonio is solid as a partner but spent a lot of time as a prop rather than a dance partner. The judges awarded 31/40.
Tommy and Peta danced the Salsa with surprising results. Tommy had good rhythm and his footwork was very clean. He earned a 28/40.
Jonathan and Allison’s Cha-cha was fun. Jonathan just needed to clean up his footwork and learn to control his long limbs a little better. The judges gave him 30/40.
The show closer was Sadie and Mark’s Jazz piece. (Wow!) It is still really difficult to believe that Sadie has never danced before. She had all the attitude and musicality required for a beautiful finish for the night. Her score was 31/40.
Albuquerque viewers can see tonight’s results show on KASA Channel 7 at 7 p.m. (MST). Everyone can vote for their favorite couple. See the ABC website for more information.
