If you’re like me, stuck between retiring your summer garden and procrastinating prep for a winter garden, then maybe it’s time we took a break from the dirty work and attended a few workshops. Lucky for us, there are a number of events planned over the course of the next few weeks.
The Tuscaloosa County Master Gardeners are hosting The Bounty of Fall this Saturday, 27th September from 8:30am – 3:00pm. The event is being held at the Alabama Cooperative Extension Auditorium at 2513 7th Street. Guest speakers include:
James Miles, Fall Vegetables with a Twist
Linda Franzo, Herb Serendipity
Teresa Johnson, Southern Container Gardens
For active Master Gardeners, this event counts for four continuing education hours. The cost is $25 and includes lunch. Application forms are available at www.mg.aces.edu/tuscaloosa. The application states the deadline to register was September 15th, but in my experience the Master Gardeners have never turned anyone away at the door. However, feel free to contact Jeanie Gray at (205) 759-4352 regarding late registration.
The Elmore County Extension Office and the Elmore County Master Gardeners are hosting their annual plant swap on Friday, 3rd October at 10am. This event will be held at the Elmore County Extension Office at 340 Queen Ann Rd in Wetumpka. How does it work? Bring five plants in great condition and take turns swapping them out until every plant has been exchanged. Awesome right? And because there will be scores of Master Gardeners hanging around, this will be a wonderful opportunity to pick their brains. Free plants AND free advice, sign me up! If possible, please contact the Elmore County Extension Office at (334) 567-6301 by Tuesday, 30th September to let them you are planning to attend.
The Garden Club of Alabama will be hosting a two-day Landscape Design Study Wednesday and Thursday, October 1-2. The event will be held in the Patterson Greenhouse at Auburn University, 420 Duncan Dr. Speakers include:
